Is this timed release?

Our 5-HTP was formulated without time release for more immediate benefits to kick in, and your body will metabolize it to be released over a couple of hours naturally. If you wish to take this over the course of a day for calming effects, and to fall asleep better at night, we recommend taking one capsule in the morning and a second capsule before bedtime.

I cant swallow pills, can i open this and mix it with food?

Yes you may. This will not reduce its effectiveness.

Why is calcium included?

While Calcium is Very Important to human health, the Calcium Carbonate added to 5-HTP.. is only utilized by the body approx. 1%. I believe Marine Grade Coral Calcium mentioned, by another customer - Jeff Hobbs, which is produced & endorsed by the late Dr. Carl Reich and Mineral Expert -Bob Barefoot, is utilized by the body approx 70%+. Personally, I'd reco taking Bob Barefoots brand of Calcium, along WITH the 5-HTP, to maximize the benefits of Arazo's 5-HTP, which is a fine product.

Has taking 5htp increased your appetite?

I have not noticed any increase in appetite. But I take 5-HTP before I go to bed as a sleep aid... So maybe I wouldn't notice.
