I typically brew my coffee in Bonavita BV1900 auto pour over machine, but occasionally I'll break out this Melitta if my wife is gone and I only need to make a single cup at a time. This is a great pour over cone for those who don't want to master the skills needed for more complex cones like the V60, but still want that signature pour over coffee flavor. Because the Melitta is single hole brewer, you don't need to fuss with pour techniques as the grounds will be completely saturated in water during the brewing process. You simply start with a bloom pour, wait 20-30 seconds, then keep adding water, maintaining the water level just slightly above the grounds bed while the brewer drains into the cup... once you've added ~380 grams of water, stop pouring water and you're done. Try and aim for a total brew time of around 2:45 - 3 minutes by adjusting the grind size to either slow down or speed up the flow of the water through the grounds. Once you have your grinder dialed in, you don't have to worry about that step for future pour overs. Easy! Even though I have one of the best auto pour over machines on the market (Bonavita BV1900), this Melitta cone produces a slightly better cup of coffee. In actuality, the coffee brewed from both devices is excellent, but the brew from the Melitta is cleaner, slightly more well-rounded, and slightly more complex. Excellent product! Highly recommended.

**Q: Where is it made?**
A: China.  This porcelain cone is the best.  It's thicker/sturdier than some others.  It comes with the #2 filters, but in my daily use of the cone I find the #4 filters are actually better.  For my cup I use approx. 50g of finely ground coffee and 300ml of water.  The #4 filter is taller than the cone, so this amount of grounds + water do not overflow the filter.  The #2 filter fits completely down inside the cone. If you make coffee for lots of people at the same time, you might want to get more than one cone. Enjoy!

**Q: Is this lead free?  Don't like that it's made in China.**
A: Good question, Joyce.  Checked the box (bit of a hoarder) and there is no mention of lead at all.  Yup, made in China.  You may want to check this out if you haven't already https://www.amazon.com/Bee-House-Ceramic-Coffee-Dripper/dp/B00GAABCUG.  In description it specifically mentions both cadmium and lead free! May order one myself as I didn't consider the heavy metals question. **Q: What is the outside diameter of the very bottom flange that fits inside the mug?**
A: 3.75"/9.5cm = outside flange with a 2"/5cm inside flange that protrudes outward into cup.

**Q: When mentioned where this was made, I've seen about 5 different answers. So for anyone who has purchased in the past year, can you say where made?**
A: China. A plastic one I recently purchased was made in USA, however. Was disappointed that this one was not.
