It works lol
I had ordered 3 d1mini pros from another company, they wouldn't communicate with my computer, but they were also on 20 for 3. Ordered this one, it shipped fast, plugged it in, flashed it, and it works fine. As others have said you have to move the antenna resistor, but that's not hard. I kinda think they should ship with the resistor solder to the external antenna, cause if you didn't want to use the external why not just order a regular d1mini. But overall I'm happy.

Works great
If you are going to use the external antenna instead of the onboard ceramic antenna, you need to remove the zero-ohm resistor next to the antenna connector, and solder bridge as shown by the red arrow. Otherwise, the external antenna isn't connected. Once done, everything works great.

DOA
Wanted to simply load code from a D1 mini from a previous project, but wasted time on this. It loaded code, but would not run. This code is running on other D1 mini modules. Chip got hot. Appears to be bad hardware. Returning. Side note. This device does not have a diode to avoid 5V back feeding to the USB. This is populated with a 0R resistor. Probably not important in most applications, but the pictures do not match what you get. As others noted, the 0R for the antenna selection is setup for using the ceramic. The module does not have FCC approval and is not meant for commercial use.

Adds range to projects
I use these in my vehicles to trigger Home Assistant to open and close garage doors based on which vehicle is within range. Before ordering these my garage doors wouldnโt open soon enough, but adding range fixed my issue. I havenโt pressed a garage door button since installing these in my vehicles and programming them to communicate with my Wi-Fi.

Needed Increased Range - Delivered!
I wanted to collect some sensor data from an off-grid solar-powered shed and the initial Wemos D1 Mini wasn't able to connect to my Wifi (standard crappy ISP router). Got this one with external antenna and it worked! Easy replacement on the sensor-collecting circuit (same dimensions, drop-in replacement), but keep in mind that to use the external antenna you must rotate a TINY soldered resistor (or just remove it and bridge the other contacts) In my signal strength tests, the external antenna had 10-20 dBs improvement (in my shed I got average -75dB). Be aware of antenna position, and make sure to test signal strength in your application to determine the best orientation (I was surprised that in my case the second-floor router had better connection).

It turns on n attend works but I canโt get it to show up on my Linux or Mac . Gotta look into how to program hopelessly not with a bread board I really just wanted the antenna to use with.my flipper so,how

Solved my problem
As others mentioned, itโs necessary to do some soldering to get the external antenna working. Remove the 0K resistor by desoldering it or just clip it out. No need to reuse the smd part; a solder blob is all you need to bridge the pads. The external antenna improved a -89db signal to -78db. Not spectacular but enough gain to reliably move the small packets my application requires.

I bought this particular ESP8266 option mainly due to it's external antenna for use in a shed with less than ideal wifi reception. I replaced an existing ESP8266 (NodeMCU) module which was using a built-in antenna that worked but the signal was weak. This ends up having the same reception as the old one with the built-in antenna. Other than that, the package is nice and small and easy to configure through the USB connection. I also like having the 5V option right on the board, which helped with my use case.

I got one that was previously returned. Some of the pads were already soldered.

When flashing the module, it always went into a boot loop (exception in ets cause 2). I tried altering the clck speed, the communications rate, and many other parameters without success (and I have substantial experience). I also tried it with Tasmota as well as new code via the Arduino IDE. Seems like I have a defective module. That can happen, but I am not the only one.
