extremely effective the non-pro version is too

ram was >70C idle and >80C under load.I purchased 2 of the pro version for 18.00 each to see if they were thin enough to fit side by side and also to test if they are effective.they fit and are effective. now ram is <40C idle and <50C under load.I noticed a similarly significant drop in cpu temperature.I also noticed too late this is not the pro version.see arctic website for difference between versions:http://www.arctic.ac/en/p/cooling/ram-and-hard-drive.htmlits website shows when both versions are added to cart, the pro version is "not available" and that the non-pro version is "ready for shipment"also the costs of 10.50 and 11.90 for the non-pro and pro versions respectively don't include shipping from hong kong, which are an additional 10 dollars per item and take at least 8-12 days.so I wanted to get more from ct-x on amazon but it seems like the number in stock is inaccurate.so it looks like I will have to make my own from pieces of aluminumanyway, it is an extremely effective product despite it being no longer available from the manufacturer, and despite this seller being one of the worst on amazon for being inaccurate about their stock, not replying to messages, and sending the wrong item which was not just a simple error of choosing the wrong item because they put a sticker "rc pro" barcode on the package which is very clearly the non-pro version.case: silverstone rv03 90degree motherboard w/2 180mm fanscpu cooler: silverstone td02motherboard: asus z9pa-u8 parallel ram and pci slotscpu: intel xeon e5-2689 115wram: 8 sticks of 16gb ecc server ram

NOT THE RC PRO, THEY SHIPPED THE OLDER VERSION SO I RETURNED IT.

*by M***Y on Reviewed in the United States on December 24, 2014*

I purchased and returned this item because it was not the Arctic RC Pro, it was the older version Arctic RC. The newer version uses three small screws to maintain the connection to the RAM, while the older version (this one) just uses the adhesive thermal tape. The picture is of the newer version, but that is not what arrived. No problem with the return, which was seamless, and why I am giving 5 stars. I just wanted to give any potential shoppers a heads up on what to expect.

    Extremely effective

Arctic RC PRO RAM coolers are extremely effective. They reduced my DDR2 temperatures from about 47 degrees under load to about 37 degrees. That's a very major drop. The installation system is simple and effective if used correctly. Remove the 3 screws and put them someplace safe. Remove the blue plastic tape from the thermal pad on the half of the heatsink that has the threaded insert (i.e. has no screw hole through it). Remove the thin tape carefully as it wants to pull off the thermal pad. The thermal pad is not very sticky. Place it into the upper part of the plastic shipping tray, all the way to the top, with the thermal pad facing up.Place a cleaned memory DIMM onto the exposed thermal pad by aligning it to the lower guides at the bottom of the tray with the contacts down of course. Basically the heat sink should be all the way to the top of the tray and the DIMM all the way to the bottom. Remove the tape from the other half of the heat sink and place it onto the DIMM, lining up the screw holes. Reinstall the three screws and tighten gradually across all the screws until all slack is taken out. The screws will not totally bottom, so just tighten to a firm stop. The hardest part of installation is often removing the stock heat spreaders from the DIMMs. To do that succesfully, remove all clips, then insert a knife blade from the contact end of the DIMM between the chips and the thermal pad. It's very important to put the knife only there and very easy to slip and damage the DIMM or cut yourself. If the DIMM, chip or ball grid array or any of the support chips on the DIMM are damaged, the DIMM is probably destroyed. Work very carefully and slowly. Try to separate the existing pad from each individual chip then carefully pull the spreader off. Use the knife to cut any remaining pad material that's sticking to either side. If you pry too hard, you can actually pull the chips off the circuit board, which of course destroys the DIMM unless you have access to a wave soldering machine, which most hobbyists will not have. Repeat on the other side. Duct tape or alcohol can help to remove any remaining thermal pad material. I find that dragging the tape can pull off the glue. Do the cleaning carefully too since any damage to the DIMM probably destroys it.
