## Overview

The ESI Grips Extra Chunky MTB Grip in black features a 34mm thick silicone design that excels in vibration damping to reduce hand numbness on long rides. UV resistant and non-porous, these latex-free grips maintain their softness and color without hardening or fading. Weighing just 80 grams, they offer a custom fit that adapts to your hand shape, ensuring superior control and comfort in all conditions.

## Description

Super thick for when you need maximum shock absorption! ESI's grips are built from silicone for a host of reasons. Chief among them is the vibration damping that silicone provides. Basically, these are much more effective than a standard grip at canceling out high frequency vibrations, which ultimately leads to numbness and pain in the hands. It's especially noticeable during long rides, but the benefits will be apparent every time that you hop on your bike. Silicone is grippy stuff, which is good news, because that grip works in both directions. As a result, the grips are secured not only to your hands, but to your handlebars as well. In fact, when installed per the instructions, these grips stick firmly to handlebars, even in the rain. And naturally, they provide a solid hold for your hands, regardless of sweat or dirt. Better yet, because silicone has memory, these grips will break in to the shape of your hand, providing a custom-fit that gets better the more that you ride them. The Extra Chunky grips are maximum thickness at 34mm dia for those that need it. The most popular thickness is the Chunky (medium). Riders with smaller hands, or those who prefer thinner grips, will be better served by the ESI Racer's Edge grip. The ESI Extra Chunky Grips are available in one size (130mm) but can be cut down to smaller sizes if required (if you have grip shifters, for example). Please refer to the included instructions for correct installation. We have linked to some useful videos in the Videos tab here as well. Review: Dishwashing liquid soap to the rescue! - Tip: Use dishwashing liquid soap to install these grips. For detailed instructions see the YouTube video that describes installing the ESI Chunky grips the easy way. I used a recycled tall-ish yogurt container to hold a soapy/sudsy mix then added more liquid soap directly into the grips. Getting the grips started onto the bar is the hardest part and the soapy/sudsy mix you've applied on the bar itself may dry up during that interval. Simply add more once you get the grip started and it's all easy from there. The stuff dries up quickly and holds firm from then on (but you'll have a few minutes to adjust the final position before it does). I didn't actually use the Chunkys as standard bar end grips -- I ran them up front of the brakes and shifters onto the curved part of an alt bar (swept back Surly Open Bar but anything similar would also work) as a forward "aero" grip when encountering wind or just to give another place to rest my hands. Ergon Biokork GC1s were my pick for the main grip Ergon GC1 BioKork Grips, Regular . I had another single Extra Chunky that I had to cut off to change out the bars so I cut it in half and added it to both sides using electrcians tape to hold it in place. To extend that padding toward the stem, I then wrapped some inner tube on and then covered the whole works -- the tubing and grips -- with handlebar tape. Bingo! A very nice and comfy forward grip zone.
Review: Sur cintre carbone - Le meilleur pour moi.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Are they made out of silicon?**
A: Yes a silicone foam, love these grips, best foam type grips out there.

**Q: Do these have locking end caps?**
A: No. They just have end cap plugs.

**Q: Would these work on my Bontrager alloy, 31.8mm comfort sweep handle bars?**
A: I have the ESI grips mounted on 31.8 carbon bars .
They should fit on your bars, they are difficult to put on
use a soapy water solution to help slide them on.

**Q: Is it easy to switch these grips from one handle to another?**
A: Yes- I slip 4 long allen wrenches with rounded ends in between the grip and the handlebar and the grip slips off.
To reinstall I use golf grip solvent.

Le meilleur pour moi.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 衝撃吸収性が良い〜_(:3 」∠)_
*by S***O on 17 October 2025*
