Essential Tool for Leg Fracture Recovery
I suffered a bad tri-malleolar fx back in September, which left me non-weight-bearing (with complications) for three months. When the splints and casts were finally all off, I was ready to get out of bed and be [more] normal. My family moved a recliner into my room so I could still ice and elevate, but it was difficult for me to get out of it and stand up, even using a walker for assistance. I was initially just searching for a table that would allow me to sit in a chair with my computer to do my work (You might think that sitting in bed working would be amazing, but that is a poor long-term choice ergonomically speaking, as you gradually slide down the bed and those pillows never stay put!). When I saw this table with the handle to help me stand, I decided to try it and see if I could get some of my independence back. Here are my thoughts: - Worth every $ - Well made and easy to put together. One screw didn't want to attach, but the other two are enough to hold the weight. The hardest part was positioning the table stand under the chair legs - two people make that task easier. - Stable, stable, stable! Frequently tested by the household pack consisting of a German Shepherd, Greater Pyrenees, Golden Retriever, and Poodles. They tried their best to break it. - The standing handle does its job perfectly! Besides using it to stand up, I can also run my cables through it and hang things from it to keep them within reach. - The arm height is easily adjustable and has a good range of height options. - The arm swing and table swivel combine to make it ridiculously flexible to position either to the left or right of the handle. - The table itself is very nice and will easily hold a 15" laptop, books, breakfast, etc. - The little tray on the back of the table space is great for stashing a remote, pen, reading glasses, etc. - The table is NOT large enough to hold a 15" laptop with a mouse next to it. I hate touchpads, so I placed a cutting board under the laptop and shifted it over until I had enough room to use my mouse. Overall, I highly recommend it! Even if you don't need the handle to assist with standing, this is just a nice, stable little table if you spend a lot of time in a chair - or have crazy K9s or toddlers who are always trying to knock your stuff to the floor.

Huge Success Solving Big Problem
My 90 year old Mom loves to color and was unable to move a TV tray to get up since she has back problems. She also has Alzheimers and things easily get confusing. With back problems it's challening for her to get up easily. I installed this amazing product in a few minutes and she was thrilled to be able to easily swing the tray in front of herself to color. When she was done, she pushed the tray out of her way and could use the handle to help herself up. It is a miraculous solution to a very challenging problem. It was super easy to put together and to install. I would love to have had a few more adjustments on the exact location but the leg of the chair fit in a funny way on the plate that stabilizes it. There is a flat part, then the place where the handle comes up and another flat part. If the flat part that slides under the chair was a little wider it would be perfect. Now it's almost ideal and still works because the tray is really maneuverable. It's not exactly level which makes me a bit wonky, yet works for reading the paper, playing with her games and coloring. I am so thrilled with this purchase and the quality of the product and would highly recommend it for the elderly who will easily be able to swing the table into the exact position to eat, sew, read or do a project. This version has a compartment tray attached for a few of her colored pencils, and a drink holder, although because it's not exactly level I might avoid the drink holder. She is thrilled and had not problem pulling and pushing it as it swings with the perfect resistance. My sister was so excited she said, I need one for me while I am on the couch doing crossword puzzles so my neck doesn't hurt with the book on my lap. Very high quality and a life saver for the elderly.

Good product, but room for improvement
Overall, this product is of good quality, and I would not call it flimsy as a few negative reviewers have. All of the telescoping tubing parts are heavy gauge steel and should never present any problems. The product is well built, and should last a long time under normal use. The only way you can be sure that this product will work for you, is to try it. Amazon has a good return policy if it doesn't work out for you. I can only give this product four stars however, because of what I believe are less than ideal design features, and exaggerated specifications: First of all, the tray is too small. Just a few more inches of width, and about another inch from front to back, would be a huge improvement. Next, the flange of the cup holder gets in the way if you want to set flat items like a laptop on the tray. It would be a better product if the plastic cup holder were recessed into the wooden tray so that it was flush with the rest of the top. Next, the tray attachment could stand a few minor improvements. When I first attempted to attach the tray, I didn't bother to use the "leveling screw", as I didn't believe it was that crucial to have a perfectly level table. As it turns out, the leveling screw is a critical part of holding the tray securely to the mounting bracket. Without the "leveling screw" protruding through the back of its base plate, and contacting the mounting bracket, the entire tray tends to slip right off as you're tightening the screws. I expect this is what caused several reviewers problems with the tray falling off on their dog's head... etc. The simple fix for this, would be to have a few dimples or countersinks for the tips of the two mounting screws to hit... this would prevent slippage. Pointed tip machine screws would also help, or the combination of both. Lastly, the claim that the tray is designed to hold 30 pounds. Sorry.... not a chance. There's no way a 30 pound load is stable on the tray. The fulcrum point for the load is at the base, and the load sits at the end of what is effectively a 3-4 foot lever. The 30 pound claim is an exaggeration, could be dangerous, and the manufacturer needs to stop making this claim. A realistic maximum weight would be 15 pounds. The good news is, who cares? Who on earth is going to put 30 pounds on a tray? No one, that's who. The tray will safely hold all of the items you'd normally want to place on a tray. If however, you want to set several concrete blocks on it, or a set of 15lb dumbbells, you might have a problem. I purchased this chair for use with a Golden Technologies lift chair, which I don't have on hand yet. I will amend this review once I see how well the tray works with that particular chair. The recliner I have at present, is a wide, plush Flexsteel recliner (a piece of junk I might add). The assist handle doesn't really work well with my current recliner, because it can't be ideally positioned due to how the chair is proportioned. My current recliner is very wide, and I would imagine that it presents an unusual set of circumstances, so I can't blame the tray table for not working perfectly with my current chair. I expect it to work much better with the new chair. I plan on keeping this product, but I'm pretty good at woodworking, so I may build another table that is a bit larger with a flush cup holder.. I would normally give this product 3 stars, but I give it four because of the fact it is well made... albeit a few flaws, and the vendors obvious willingness to resolve issues.

Perfect Solution!
I purchased this chair on two occasions and am very pleased with the tray tables. It is just the right size, and the 360 degree swivel makes it easy to use. My husband was putting marks on the arm of his chair - trying to get up and doing damage to the arm. Now he can grab onto the handle of the tray table and easily rise up from his chair. The tray is not in the way, since it can be positioned right over the arm of the chair when not in use. Plus, it fits in well with our black furniture. The construction is sturdy and I would consider it to be of quality construction. A+ solution for standing and use as a tv tray.

Able Life Tray Table - status - one year after purchase
I bought the Able Life Tray Table for my mother who has dementia one year ago. We have been very pleased with the item. It is of high quality material. Very sturdy. Easy to clean. The swivel action on the device is still working perfectly one year later with no issues. I would recommend this for anyone who likes to eat at their recliner in front of the tv. It has worked great for my mom who likes to eat in her room. The arm grasp gives her something to hold to when she pushes up to get out of her chair. We have been nothing but please with this item and would definitely purchase again in the future as a gift for another family member.

So convenient, easy to use, and well worth the price.
This swivel laptop table is terrific. It arrived on time and yes, it is heavy. I am a 68 year old woman and so I unpacked the box and used a cart to individually carry the parts into the room where I wanted them. It was very easy for me to assemble all by myself. The hardest part was lifting the legs of my easy chair up, but I was able to tip it and get everything in place. It is firmly secured by the weight of your chair or sofa, so it won't fall over. My laptop fits on it perfectly, and swivels smoothly out of the way when I want to stand. I am 68, and like some older people I find that my knees hurt. Not having the laptop sitting on my lap (and knees) is very helpful, and I even have room to put an ice pack on my knees under the swivel table. It has four different height settings, although it is a little cumbersome to change the height and takes a moment. The tray swivels on the horizontal arm, and that horizontal arm swivels on the vertical support, so it is easy to get your computer oriented exactly as you might wish, whether near to you or a little farther away. The swiveling action is smooth and easy. The handle helps as a balance aid when rising, and I might lean on it a little too, but I wouldn't put all my weight on it since it is just plastic. Problems: (1) The tray didn't seem level, so I read the instructions (when in doubt.... LOL). It said that one particular screw would tilt the table as desired. This is the middle of three screws where the arm that the tray is on, attaches to the piece that is upright/vertical. You adjust that one first, and then tighten the other two. So, I did that and guess what? It's perfectly level now. (2) Here's the main problem you might have, although it is not a problem for me: If you have kids, grandkids, or a big dog that might want to climb on the table, I suspect that the table could not hold that much weight. However I have absolute confidence that it will hold my laptop or a meal. Originally I thought this table was awfully expensive at $152. But it turned out to be so convenient and helpful, that now I think it was a bargain at that price. I have only had it a week or so, but at present this is my favorite purchase of 2016.

Better than TV trays
Pros: Solidly built, easy to assemble, quality materials Cons: No way to lock the tray in place, adjustments could be easier, when parallel the tray sits a little too close to the chair This tray replaced a standard TV tray for an elderly person who would lean on and destroy them. The Able Tray is definitely strong enough to stand up to use that would crush a standard tray. My main problem with it is that when swung into proper position, the tray goes deep into the seating area. The width of the base pads is adjustable, but the distance between the front pad and post is not. This doesn't suit people who sit toward the front of their chair. For them, the tray will have to sit at an jaunty angle. Also, because the tray arm doesn't lock, it's easy for the user to spin it away from them. This is not ideal for many users. Overall, this is a quality product, and is probably worth the premium price. It would be a 5* with a locking tray arm and the ability to adjust the distance between the post and front foot pad. **Update** After a few months, a couple flaws have become apparent and caused a star reduction. First, the tray is easily bent down in the front, so much so that I've stopped bending it back level. Second, the foot pads are not long enough to reach under every recliner. This is especially true for motorized recliners whose base is smaller than the chai itself. Adjustable feet would solve this problem but are not available on this unit.

Exceeded Expectations
I saw some mixed reviews before buying; however, from my perspective this tray is absolutely great for my 93 yr old mother-in-law. It was simple to put together. It stays very secure and stable by putting the feet under the side if her recliner. The tray stays level at all times, no matter what position I place it when I serve food to my mother-in-law. It has very smooth action when rotating the arm or tray independently in any direction. Despite being very frail, my mother-in-law also has no problem moving the tray herself. She loves it and is very happy I bought it for her.
