Why were parabens added to this "natural" preservative?

how much of this preservative do I put into a 8 oz DIY lotion?

I believe 0.5% is the recommended usage rate for this preservative, so for a 8 oz of lotion you would use 0.04 oz of preservative. Best to work with grams/ml measurements though; where 8 oz = 235.59 ml, so 235.59 X 0.5% =1.183 ml.

can you use this with soap making? And I mean melt and pour, I already know cold process doesn't need it. Thanks

This is a water soluble preservative, used primarily with O/W and W/O emulsions. There's no need to add a preservative to melt and pour soap, as it typically has a long shelf-life without a need for such.

Can I use this to preserve sea moss gel?

This is a preservative used for lotions and creams that contain water. If sea moss gel is used in a cosmetic lotion or cream, you could use it, but I don't think this would be appropriate for consumption in food products.
