Why is this only usb 2.0? do they really think people want to have some usb-c cables which only do fast charging and others which only do fast data?

This is a USB 2.0 version cable, unlike stated in one of the responses. I bought it because it states it is a "100 Watt" cable. Well, I hooked it up to my Kill a Watt meter connected to a Anker 30 watt charger, and only got 18 watts going into my DJI charge bank. Received my UGreen 3.2 Gen 2 USB today, hooked it up exactly the same way, and now I get 28.4 watts to the charge bank. Returning the Anker cable ASAP.

How thick (diameter) is the cable? I want to compare it with 60W version which has 3.4mm diameter

The diameter of this cable is 3.6mm.

Does this cable have a direction ? I just received it and it only works when one end of the cable is connected to the Laptop... not charging otherwise

It should work with a either end connected to the device. Look for possible lint or debris in the charge port or the cable
