Do I need a digital set?? Richard** A: Maybe. It's not that they don't work with flat screen TVs; that's misleading. The issue is what kind of audio outputs the TV has. We just got a new TV that only had digital output (there's exactly one audio output port, and it's a TOSLINK). The only way to know is to look at the TV specs. You can also get an adapter from that digital port to an analog port; they're about $20. **Q: Did it help with understanding the dialog ?** A: I have single sided deafness in one ear and substantial loss of hearing in the other. I use my TV Ears frequently and have found that the clarity that you hear through the ear set is exceptional. I went over the order page before I purchased this and bought the least expensive because I'd had one years ago and it worked fine. Now when you receive and open the box (which has a different model # on it than what I purchased) it says this TV Ears will not work unless you already have or purchase a more expensive, by $100.00 or so TV Ears system. Nowhere on the purchase information when I bough it did it tell me anything like this. Amazon was great and I was able to return it with no problem but now I still have no way to hear my TV without raising the volume to high for other people.I feel that this product is a bad joke. They didn't send me the model number I ordered and the instructions in the box have a different model number also.
