Do you really need "water-soluble oils"? Does the scent spread comparably to smaller capacity machines?

By water soluble they just mean pure essential oils. You cannot use blends with almond oil or other oily bases unless you want to ruin the machine. The scent seems to spread a little better than my plain diffusers. It made my whole office room smell wonderfully minty.

What is the run time on all 5 mist settings? Does it have auto shut off if water ran out? What is electricity usage on this product?

1), Actually there are not 5 mist settings, but a rotating knob with 270 degree to control mist output, you can have any mist level as you want. Running time is depend on the mist level setting - Around 20 hour continuously running for minimum mist, and 10 hour for maximum mist. 2), Yes it would automatically shut off when water runs out, so that you don't have to worry about forgetting to turn it off 3), Electricity with Input Power: AC 100-240V 50/60HZ is ok for this 1500ml aroma essential oil diffuser humidifier:)

Do I need to wash it before use? And how about inside I can't find the where is the max line?

No, you don't need to wash it first. Once you start using it, you will need to rinse the Bottem of the unit because it gets a build up of the oils you use! The water container can be filled up to about 3/4 full! I love mine and if you use the good essential oils it will fragrance the whole room!
