Miyazaki's Spirited Away Picture Book

When I went on a Miya-san book purchasing binge from Viz, I wasn't sure how these picture books would relate to the 'Art of' books. Turns out these picture books are just that, re-tellings of the movies using the cell artwork and word balloons where appropriate. The glossy pages and images hold up well and the hardcovers are well manufactured in this batch. These books are suitable to reading to small children as bed time stories, though older readers may appreciate them just as much. They are complimentary to the 'Art of' books, but not replacements. The fantastical setting of Sen's bathhouse is wonderfully represented in the pages of this book as we chart her development from sulky child to independent and capable young girl while dealing with the lonely and needy No Face. Very recommended.

My daughter loves Spirited Away and this book is perfect for her. She’s always struggled with reading new books and this has sparked her interest.

Amazing storybook!

Beautiful book with bold color pictures that captured my 4yo granddaughter’s attention.

My five year plan of grandson loves this movie and when he opened this book for Christmas he looked through the whole book. He wanted to watch the movie and followed the movie with the book.

Miyazaki's work is without a doubt, some of the greatest works in the world of animation. Spirited Away is my and my daughters favorite. This book is beautiful and so full of delightful colored pictures and carefully selected quotes to tell the tale. Just the pictures and extra info in here is enough for me, but it is super easy to read with your child... or just yourself(me sometimes). Anyways... This is a must have in your book collection. End of story. Hit the buy button.

we recently bought this book for our 4 and 6 year old. they had just seen the movie the day before we got the book. they are in love with this book. we've been rotating between this book and the Ponyo picture book at bedtime. in the mornings the kids like to flip through the books themselves; there are so many pictures they can tell the progression of the story without reading. they fight over who gets which book, they love them so much! as others have said, these books are long! it takes me 45 minutes to get through this book, and i don't read through every single word (my kids are still small enough that i can get away with that, especially in a book this long). the pages and binding are high quality and the pictures are gorgeous. i'm hoping to eventually accrue all the Miyazaki picture books, they are so lovely.

This movie introduced me the joys and mystique of Japanese onsens, toris, architecture and landscapes and every time I watch the movie it reminds me of Japan, and every time I am in Japan I am reminded of this movie (I would call it my 'Spirited Away moments' - I also have DNAngel moments, not to mention Lost in Translation Moments LOL). Now I don't have to break the movie out to capture that feeling, I can just turn the pages of this book and relive all that - love going over the pages with my daughter and talking to her about my experiences in Japan as we read...no need to pause movie with this one.

It's suitable even for a 2 year old. Even though a small child might not understand the true meaning of a growing up story intended for 10 year olds, the story is so captivating and the illustrations are perfect. My kid gets fully concentrated and mesmerized by this book.

Mi aspettavo di più. Sono solo frame del film con frasi di narrazione - non del tutto fedeli al film a volte- nulla più. Va bene da leggere alla bimba prima della nanna....non va bene per chi pensa sia un libro di qualche pregio...vabbe..
