how can I use off & on only?

It's a dedicated power button. Plus the instructions come in the box will tell you how to operate the device. The automatic feature is very useful in any event though

What is the size of the light body? I want a light to put in an aquarium hoid yo replace an existing light. I need something that is 3¾x 21"

My light is 4 inch wide x. 17 inches long and about 3/8 of an inch thick. It fits nicely on a standard 10 gallon tank with about an inch on either side.

Would this light fit a 20 gallon long that isnt rimless?

If you purchase the 22 watt or the 26 watt it will fit. A warning to those wanting aquatic plants - this grows algae like crazy but every plant in every tank I have this brand of LED light on has died or is barely struggling to hold on. So I wouldn't recommend it for planted tanks.

I know I can adjust the light intensity in manual mode but can I adjust the daylight intensity when it is in auto mode so it isn't always 100%?

By auto mode, you mean S1? The brightness is one of the programming options for this mode.
