Compact, Sturdy, and Functional
This will be generally first impressions because I've only been using this for a day, but I wanted to also touch on a few concerns I read in other reviews. First off, the design is actually pretty simple but nice. I would guess an aluminum casing with the Kingston branding accompanied by a black plastic back for SD and micro SD insertion with a honeycomb pattern. It looks sleek and its not bulky or heavy at all. I don't really know how to do a speed test. The device using USB 3.0 but I'm gonna assume that the speeds will still vary greatly on the SD card used. I used a Sony SDHC 70mb/s class 10 32GB card to run basic tests. The speed wasn't bad but if you expected USB 3.0 speeds, it will underwhelm you. I think with the USB 3.0 you'll get roughly the max speed possible with the card so I do like that the device is USB 3.0 compatible but experiences will vary. Touching on the two main concerns I read about in other reviews. Heat and size of the port. I left the drive plugged in with reading or writing to it for over an hour without any major heat issues. It did get warm but, nothing out of the ordinary or dangerous. I also tried reading and writing large files to it and while I experienced slightly more heat, it still did not seem hot or dangerous. Also, I read that the port was a bit too snug for USB ports making it hard to insert or remove and even cause the back casing to come off in the process. I did not experience this either. I tried both of my USB 3.0 ports at home on my computer and I tried two separate AmazonBasic USB extenders(1x 2.0 / 1x 3.0) and found no extra difficulty inserting the drive or removing it. This could be a batch issue but as far as my device in 12/15, I didn't have this issue. Overall I like it. I don't like having to carry cords around for all my devices to plug into my computer and transfer files. I can carry this around or leave it plugged in as a SD or micro SD reader which my computer does not have. For now it has been functional and for the price of ~$9 I can easily recommend this. If it doesn't hold up to the test of time, I will come back to change my review.

Hands down.. Best portable USB 3.0 card reader yet
Needed a card reader that was portable, but could also allow UHS II speeds to work. This reader has gone beyond my expectations, enough so that i wanted to tell others. It is SOLID... made of metal and not plastic. Unlike others who drop out occasionally, this has not. It achieves the correct speeds, including UHS II cards like Lexar's lineup of super fast sd cards. But the icing on the cake is that it allows both cards (micro and full size SD/TF) to be recognized by the OS CONCURRENTLY. I always thought that was a crappy feature of other brands... Make two slots but only read one at a time. The metal construction is the best ive owned thurs far though... And i plan to purchase a few more to have on hand at the shop, home and possibly on a keychain. Only thing i did not expect is that there's no end cap.. But most get lost quickly anyway. So 5 stars, all the way. I would definitely recommend this item if you are looking for a solid usb 3.0 card reader, if you require UHSII reading, or if you just want a reader that is reliable. Great device, and the price is right under $10. Worth it IMO.

Good card reader, but gets quite hot
I've had this card reader for several months, and it works well. What really separates this card reader from others is that it's USB 3.0 and supports not only UHS-I, but UHS-II, while being quite cheap. My only complaint is that this card reader gets really, really hot while plugged in, even if it's not in use. I touched mine a couple times and quickly removed it. It doesn't seem damaged or anything, but it gets way hotter than I expected. At the time, I almost didn't end up buying it, because Amazon didn't have it listed under featured, new products, or anything that stood out. Amazon makes it hard to quality products at times, relying so much on reviews (older products usually) and other criteria which even well reviewed products may not fit into.

Easy to use and BLAZING fast!
I had an 8-year-old micro sd card reader (see photo), also made by Kingston, and it wouldn't read my new SanDisk micro sd card. I called Kingston, and they said it MAY be that the 8-year-old card reader that I was using could be the problem. That maybe my old card would be better suited finding a drive-in movie theater and watching this new, juggernaut of a film called E.T. So, you're telling me it's old, then? lol. Uh...YEAH. I plugged in the micro sd card to this new Kingston reader, and it worked perfectly. Windows popped up right away with a window asking what I wanted to do. Transfer files, please. Here's the fantastic part: I transferred 50.5 GB in less than 5 minutes! Maybe faster than that, I shoulda timed it. It would move , like 400 MB, in the count of 3! Just super, SUPER fast (If you're reading this review in 2028, try not to bust a rib laughing at how slow that is!). My computer has a USB 3.0 and this card is also 3.0 speed (you can tell this because the tab inside the USB port will be BLUE). If you DON'T see a blue tab on your computer, then this will NOT transfer files nearly as fast. I also like that "SD" is engraved on one side of the reader and "Micro SD" is engraved on the other in case you weren't sure. This reader does read SD and MicroSD. I can't speak to the durability cuz I've only used it once. I don't plan on using this to change my car tire, so I suspect it will last a while. I also would've liked to see some kind of a cute little case to hold this in. It IS exposed to the elements of whatever drawer you keep it in without a case to protect it from dust, etc . I posted a picture of a little box I got at the container store for a dollar. It's a nice fit. Hope this was helpful!

Great For Phone Backups, 4+ Months Going Strong!
This is a great USB 3 device. I have Kingston USB flash drives so I decided to try their offering as a card reader and I was not disappointed! I use this device daily with an OTG cable Cable MattersĀ® (2-Pack)...

Excellent Card Reader
I really like this card reader. Simple and convenient. It has a solid, quality feel, with excellent fit/finish. It has slots for standard SD and micro SD cards and works like a charm. When connected to a USB 3 port I get between 80-100 MB per second data transfer speeds. It works fine in a USB 2 port, but the speed is obviously less. The reader is a bit tight in some USB slots, but if you use care inserting and removing the reader, there is no problem. I actually like the secure fit because it lessens the chance of a wiggle causing a connection issue and data corruption. Cards fit very precise and snug, but not overly tight. They are slip fit slots, not the spring loaded push and click style. Note that it will only work with one card inserted at a time, it won't work with both a standard and micro SD card inserted at the same time. Definitely recommended.

Great Value, fastest reader I tried, it does get warm.
I tested 8 cards with this device and got higher speeds compared to results given in reviews for same cards using other readers. It might deserve one star less because it does get quite warm during reading/writing, but no card was damaged or malfunctioned during 80 GB transfer and for the price I paid, I do not dare click on the fourth star. The fit is somewhat snug but not excessive. Removing the card while device is hot, requires some effort. If you let the device cool down, cards slide out with ease. For those of you who complain on the width, have in mind that this reader accommodates full size SD cards and therefore has to be that wide. I do not have USB 3.0 ports on the front of my PC, so I use USB 3.0 extension cable which does take away about 1 MB speed away compared to it plugged in directly into the USB port on the back of the case, but I avoid the issue of blocked ports and it is simply convenient. Simple, sturdy design with aluminum body which helps it cool down fast. I highly recommend this fast, versatile reader.

A Smart Purchase with Good Compatibility
This is an excellent product, sturdy, well built and fast. I haven't had any issues with or the various SD cards I've attached to it. My main reason for purchasing this item was to attach it to my Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12 and put into use some of the spare SD cards I had lying around. This is an excellent product, sturdy, well built and fast. I've been using it for about 9 months with no issues. I use it with my Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12 with an USB adapter so I can watch movies/tvshows on the go. It works flawlessly on my NotePro as well as my PC. It was a good purchase because it saved me from a USB card read to attach to my PC. I did research other similar products on Amazon and read the reviews but I opted for the Kingston because of its construction, speed, and value.
