The pockets for the ice packs are on the sides and top of your head. Your forehead and back of head don’t get ice! I do not like this hat. you need help to put it in. the straps are awkwardly placed and a hard to get the right fit. I think you need a huge head for this and mine is not. The gel inserts get frozen solid aka hard as a brick. the ice pack inserts take about 10-15 minutes to thaw. meanwhile you're sitting there waiting from them to that still in pain. I freeze the entire cap with the ice packs in so it will be ready for use. The cap is heavy and it can be a little uncomfortable to lay back on (I tend to use mine while laying down) but the relief I receive is well worth it. The cooling lasted for at least 45 minutes.
