why did the unit stop working. plug it in and nothing. no lights nothing.

Make sure the outlet has power to it first. If so, unplug the receiver for 5 minutes and plug it back in, if still no lights or power when you turn it on, unplug it and dont plug it back in. It is probably either the power supply or an internal fuse.

Does this model have balance control?

Hello. The TX-8220 has a "Balance" control. This feature would definitely help in your environment. -DH

Will this drive 4 ohm speakers?

This receiver can power one set of 4 ohm speakers on either speaker A or speaker B. You cannot have four 4 ohm speakers connected at the same time. -JM

Sub woofer why does the sub woofer still work when i select b speakers? i thought it would cut out.

The subwoofer out is a low-level signal that is independent of the high-level signal control. It is more like an AUX out signal. None of the low-level signals are controlled by the speaker selections.
