Review: I used the eGPU I purchased with a Razer Blade 15 Advanced 2020. It has a RTX 2080 Max-Q. Every single game or benchmark I threw at it performed WORSE, except for maybe a few that performed barely better. It took me nearly a month to debug and I came to two possible conclusions: either my unit came defective or the Thunderbolt 3 port throughput just isn't enough to power a 3090, which would make this downright a scam.

**Q: does this one come with a fire-extinguisher?**
A: It does not. But does come with a box of disappointment.

**Q: Is it absolutely necessary for me to have a thunderbolt 3.0 port on my desktop pc in order to use this? Can I get a thunderbolt 3.0 to usb 3.0 adapter**
A: You have to have a thunderbolt enabled active port on you PC to use a device built for that TB3 external enclosure.  USB 3.0 can't upgrade to thunderbolt due to the different hardware/communication standards TB3 has.  Also, USB 3 is 2 slow to be useful.  It's like trying to upgrade old hardware that isn't at all compatible to work at the higher speeds of TB3.  Yes both use USB-C as there physical port type but that's the only similarity.......the wiring is different internally.  I believe that some thunderbolt cables can be used as either a USB 3 cable or it's thunderbolt equivalent.  There are no adapters to allow a step up from USB 3 to work with TB3.   You will need a thunderbolt add in card that will give you a port on your  PC that is compatible with your thunderbolt device.  The motherboard has to be TB3 capable.  There are headers (jumper pins on the motherboard) that the add in card attaches to as well as an available PCIe Slot .  You have to change the bios settings to enable  the header pins on the mother board for this to work with the add in card.
