Cat-Ears Classic Cycling Wind Noise Reducer

I'm deaf, and must wear hearing aids to function. Cycling without my hearing aids is not an option. I must have full hearing to remain safe. On the other hand, I have been tormented by wind noise for years. So much so that I started riding less and less. I finally decided to see if there was some product out there that could help me. So, I purchased the Classic Cat-Ears, although I didn't have much of an expectation for success. Well, IT WORKS. From my very first ride I saw a 95% reduction in wind noise. And my auditory function for street noise was not effected at all. The instructions suggest having glasses temple pieces outside the helmet straps (and the Cat-Ears as well). I didn't find that was necessary. They work fine with the temple pieces inside (i.e. medial to) the straps. One reviewer said he didn't like the way the Cat-Eyes looked. My helmet straps are black, and my wife said she could barely see the Cat-Eyes. (Frankly, I don't care what I look like while riding. One of the benefits of being 71 years old.) In summary, this is a terrific product that allows me for the first time to enjoy cycling without battling wind noise. I don't review products very often, but I had to in this case. It was well-worth the small investment.

These fuzzy, velcro-secured attachments wrap around my helmet straps and drastically cut down wind noise, making my rides so much more enjoyable. At speeds of 15-20 mph, the usual roaring in my ears is reduced by what feels like 60-70%, transforming the high-pitched wind howl into a softer, less intrusive whoosh. This allows me to hear my surroundings—traffic, my bike’s chain, or even birds—clearly, which boosts both safety and enjoyment. The faux fur material is soft, doesn’t irritate my skin, and stays secure even on bumpy gravel paths. Installation was a breeze, and they fit perfectly on my helmet straps, sitting snugly against my face for optimal performance. While they might look a bit quirky, the noise reduction is so effective that I don’t care about appearances. I’ve even noticed I can hear my riding buddies’ conversations better during group rides without straining. For just $15, these are a game-changer for any cyclist battling wind noise. Highly recommend, and I won’t ride without them!

Seem silly but they work okay and the price is very low.

The latest Apple Airpods 2 have great sound, yet, even with noise cancellation, wind noise is a significant problem. I thought that I would never be able to wear them while biking. Then I discovered these cat ears. The name is ridiculous , but what they promise to deliver, is not. They virtually stop wind noise when attached with the cleverly integrated velcro tabs, to the front straps of a bicycle helmet. Relief at last! Hooray for Cat Ears!

Update: the Velcro fell off one side, rendering it unusable. Velcro appears to have been glued or double-sided taped onto the fabric, not stitched. Given how uncomplicated and inexpensive these must be to make, spending the extra 5 cents a pair to stitch the Velcro on might have actually made the huge markup in price worth it. I had thought of making wind noise blockers of the same concept myself, before discovering these. Stitched, naturally. Buying these was supposed to be a time saver. Fail. The delivery was late when ordering these, so I wasn't actually able to use them during my long cycling trip. In fact I have only used them for two months since returning, but it's been four months since purchase so no returns, I guess.

Although it does cut down on someone noise, these were the thickest of the three options they sold and they're still not quite thick and fuzzy enough to block out anything but a mild breeze. But that does help

This deceptively simple addition to your helmet strap reduces wind noise to a faint whisper. I have been using it on both my road helmet and my mountain bike helmet. It dawned on me last night as I was cruising along on a wooded trail, that I had never really noticed the noise of the tires on the rocks and gravel path until then. But that was all I could hear at that point since it was an otherwise quiet night and there was no roar of air moving past my ears. On the road bike, because I'm moving faster, there is a little more of a whooshing sound, but I can hear my headset perfectly and converse easily with other riders. My spouse, who found these for me and suggested that I try them, says that she didn't know I could look any dweebier in my biking kit until I put these bad boys on. But I take somewhat perverse pride in that. As Josh, the intrepid manager at Goodspeed Cycles in Homewood, Illinois, always advises: "You have to be within fifteen feet of a bicycle to be wearing biking clothes."

Wow! What a difference, if you wear hearing aids like me, get these. Just one of the greatest bike things I have ever bought. Wind noise is bad enough with normal ears, with hearings aids it like holding a microphone outside on a windy day all the time you are moving. With the babies it is quiet again, I can talk to my mates while I ride, I hear cars behind me. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Ich war zunächst auch skeptisch, ob sich der groteske Preis für diese beiden winzigen Stofffetzen lohnen würde. Aber ich wurde positiv überrascht, es bringt wirklich eine Menge. Besonders wenn man wie ich ein S-Pedelec fährt, und dies mit Geschwindigkeiten über 40 km/h bewegt. Da sind die Fahrtwind-Geräusche schon sehr extrem und auf Dauer wirklich nervig. Bei meiner ersten Fahrt mit den Cat-Ears dachte ich mehrfach, ich wäre sehr langsam unterwegs, was aber tatsächlich nicht der Fall war. Es lag an den viel geringeren Windgeräuschen, die ich bei >40 km/h überhaupt nicht gewohnt war. Mein Fazit für schnelle Fahrer (S-Pedelcs oder Rennräder): der Preis ist eine Frechheit, aber es bringt schon eine deutliche Reduzierung des Lärms, insbes. bei Geschwindigkeiten >40 km/h Mein Fazit für "normale" Fahrer: Bei niedrigeren Geschwindigkeiten bis 25 km/h treten logischerweise an sich schon deutlich weniger Windgeräusche auf, daher ist der Unterschied hier nicht so spürbar. Daher hier keine Kaufempfehlung

I wear hearing aids, both ears, completely in canal. I use Aftershox bone conduction earphones when riding, so I can still hear ambient noise. Unfortunately, I can hear wind noise too, amplified by the hearing aids. Wind noise completely removed the option of listening to music or podcasts while riding. I tried making my own wind noise reduction system using soft foam stuck to my helmet straps, but the results were not great. These Cat-Ears are expensive for a simple fur fabric held on by velcro. But once I put them on, I was in a different world. Don't expect miracles - cycling into a headwind is still noisy. But on an average low-moderate wind day, these reduced wind noise by a lot, maybe 80-90% for me. I can now listen to music and podcasts, and still hear essential sounds around me, such as cars. These are a one-off purchase that should last years, and I highly recommend them

Only used a few times but definitely seems to help with reducing wind noise. You need to make sure that it fits snugly against your face and the lie of the fur is facing forward (into the wind). The installation instructions aren't really that clear, but you have a 50% chance of getting it right. I tried both ways and it was pretty clear which one was effective. I haven't used it in hot weather yet, but I did notice the longer fur becoming a bit sticky against my face. I had also ordered a pair of the Airstreamz version (which is more dense curled fibres and firmer than the faux fluffy boa material of the classics) though have yet to give them a go. I will probably do so as the weather warms and review them separately.
