HABA Terra Kids - Observational Magnifier with Ingenious Mirror to View Bugs from Above and Below

These are great and easy to hold and use for both very young and the older nature enthusiasts. As a naturalist I’m always looking for ways to help all ages enjoy their nature discoveries. Easy to hold and with two viewing options everyone is able to see clearly their finds including leaves, nuts, seeds, insects ( dead or alive) and flowers. Great addition to any nature camp tools and materials.

Great other than the top viewing window not being secure. The top just kind of sits there with a pressure seal but even the slightest bump can knock the top viewer off and allow for the subject to escape. It would be better if it screwed on or had a latch of some sort

This truly is an ingenious device! I volunteer as an Angler Education Instructor with Texas Parks and Wildlife. We recently used this device to show students of all ages (5-60+) various invertebrates collected from the very waters where we were instructing. Of everything that we taught that day the magnifier was by far the most popular. Now for some specifics: This device is well made. Kids dropped it, kids grabbed it from one another, etc. Since the subjects we where examining are aquatic we added water to the viewing chamber along with the subject. No leaks. It held up fine. Considering its impact and uniqueness it is an excellent value for the money. While it is specifically marketed as a device for viewing "bugs", I suspect that the applications are unlimited. Since using it at our fishing class I have obtained one for my own use and find it useful for examining coins from both sides . I highly recommend it.

Purchased this and a few other outdoor exploration tools for the kids while they are home with me during Covid-19. The first one of these arrived with a cracked bug chamber so it was returned and Amazon had a new one to us the next day. The kids (7 and 3) immediately started catching bugs and examining them. Had a great time looking up close at a wasp, worms, centipede, spider, etc.. Then the 7yo dropped it off the table onto the wood floor and the bug chamber broke. A triangle of the plastic broke off. It was a pretty clean break and I was able to reattach it with some superglue and it seems to be holding so far. Overall it seems like a nice toy/tool for the kids, but to have two of them break in such a short time tells me that the design needs to be adjusted to be more kid/drop friendly.

My kid loves this thing! It opens, and allows you to put anything you want in there to check out through the scope.
