It works. Compared to highly precise calibrated instruments used on commercial airliners, it’s plenty accurate. Far more accurate than a tire tread depth gauge needs to be. I bought mine for measuring scratch depths on commercial airliners. The stock tip is too wide, so I had to sand it down. Still far better than more in-depth sets that cost $100+, but not as good as a $600 Sterett gauge. It works better than I have any right to expect at this price, anyway.

Nice tool

Sometimes we need to measure hail dents on aircraft leading edges. Bought this specifically for that job. It passed at the calibration shop and is carried in our work van now.
