CT100 is a great tester !
The CT100 works! I was considering the CT200, with the digital read-out. I bought the CT100 instead, thinking that I probably will use it once or twice in my life, so why spend more money on the CT200. However, I'm glad I chose the CT100, and actually had occasion to use it the day after I received it. The advantage (yes advantage) of the CT100 is: if you learn how to interpret the LED display (which ia an EASY skill, and there are tutorials on web about this anyway)... the LEDS tell you exactly what the fault is , with each wire. Which pins are shorted to each other or open. It was especially helpful in my case because there was a fault 12" away from the 1/4 inch audio plug. It's a bit cheaper than the CT200, but instantly tells you the status of each pin/wire in the cable. I do not regret purchasing it at all. It's a keeper, and satisfies all the cable types I purchased it for. It is built strong, steel housing. Takes 2 AA batteries. inexpensive and highly functional. If it breaks or gets lost a at a gig, I will replace it with another CT100.

Rugged, extremely useful, and a great value
It's just about the cheapest cable tester on the market, and here's the thing: It'll test just about every type of cable in your studio, it offers consistent readings, it's in a fairly sturdy metal housing, and it's about $20.00. There are more rugged testers. There are testers that support network cables and various other types of readings. But this one most likely has what you need, and it's most likely cheaper than any other one you'd compare it to. Get it! On a side-note: The screws for the battery cover and belt clip are extremely soft metal and require a small screw-driver. I stripped the screw on my first unit the first time I tried to take the battery cover off. Amazon replaced it, I got the new one the following day in the mail, and it was missing the belt clip and documentation entirely. Amazon replaced that one as well, I got the new one today, and it is working perfectly. I'm now very happy with it. Cheap, but solid, construction--what you can expect from Behringer. But where their low-end audio processors might negatively color your sound, you have no worries of that sort of thing here--as a cable tester, it does it's job as well as any other, and it never touches your music :)

Great test device - solid
This unit pretty much does every test you could want on typical audio/studio cables - all the audio cable connector types (XLR, RCA, 1/4 jack, 1/8 jack) plus DIN connector cables (midi and audio). Very solid - built to stand punishment on the road or in the studio. Almost fees armored! I've used a lot of Behringer gear over the years and never had anything go wrong with one of their boxes - I suspect the same will be true of this one given the high quality of construction. That said, only 4 stars due to a few annoyances. There are three. The first is the main one for the loss of a star in this review: The unit has a belt clip you can install. However, someone goofed on the design and placed the attachment point for the clip a little low on the back so once it is attached, you cannot open the battery compartment to change the batteries. Since the clip is screwed on, you first have to unscrew it, making sure not to lose the machine screws, then unscrew the battery compartment (also making sure not to lose its screw), replace the batteries and reverse the process. That could have been avoided by a different placement of the sturdy belt clip. The other two points are relatively minor but a bit annoying. The screws for the batter clip are taped to it with very sticky tape so you have to clean them off before installing them or you might not be able to remove them ... Finally, it is not shipped with batteries - so batteries not included and at this price point, I'd expect at least a couple of AA cells ...

Inexpensive, but does the job very well
I've owned his tester for years. I really like the fact that it shows "intermittent" connection issues. I'll connect an XLR cable and then shake the cable near the ends and if there is any issue with a loose/faulty connection, it will light up the intermittent LEDs making it very easy to diagnose a common problem without even having to open up the cable ends to visually check them. Obviously it will show cables that are completely broken as well, but it is far more common to have a intermittent issue vs a completely broken cable. The device has a sturdy metal case and it still looks great after being thrown around and carried in a tool bag for almost 8 years now. I certainly don't have any complaints about the "ruggedness" of this device. If there is a downside to this device, it's the power switch design. It sticks up near the edge of the case and it is very easy for it to get knocked "on" accidentally - especially if you keep this device in a bag to case with other things touching it. Luckily there is a very simple solution - shave the on/off switch flush with the case. This will still allow you to turn the device on/off easily, but it prevents the device from accidentally getting turned on and running the batteries dead. Once I made this modification to my device, I've never found it accidentally turned on. It seems that Behringer has recently lowered the retail price on this unit and at $22 you really can't go wrong with it.

Great test with one easily solved issue.
This cable tester is easy to use and accurate. You will need two adapters for testing guitar cables. The adapters are male RCA to female 1/4" mono. The two female 1/4" jacks on the tester only work with stereo 1/4" plugs.

Full Featured cable tester, AND MORE!
This cable tester does far more than just test cables. It does that well with LED indicators for every conductor inside every wire you ever saw, and then some! Belt clip for you live sound engineer types lets you do it on the spot, at the gig, right NOW! Solves the problem QUICK! And you're the hero now! This tester goes beyond what you expect. It can test a speaker cable or mic cable from only ONE END. Incredible! Just what you need at the gig, when that mic is dead or that speaker won't work. You know it's the cable, but... PIA to untangle that cable now! Not any more. Just unplug that cable from the mic or that monitor speaker and BAM! One-ended, real time, accurate cable test! In seconds, on the spot! Behringer hit a home run with this invaluable little box. Instruction manual could be a little better on the explanations and usage, but it ain't rocket science. You'll figure it out. Test tone generator too! Wow!

A must have
This is a must have for testing many a cable. It tests 8 styles of cable, Speak-on, XLR, RCA, 3.5mm, MIDI, Ethernet (all 8 pins), 1/4" & 1/8" TRS, and USB cables. It provides a tone generator at 3 levels, indicates phantom power, crossed wires, shorts and opens, and intermittent's. It's a trouble shooters best friend. It takes 2 AA batteries. The price was surprisingly the best ever, below the prices I had seen at music stores. Get one now before the price goes back up.

Microprocessor controlled, very good device.
My hand-made 30 year old cable tester finally gave up the ghost so I bought the Behringer CT-200 makes my life at the theater easy because of all that is packed into this tight little bundle. The Behringer CT-200 is a feature packed cable tester which is a microprocessor controlled device that auto-detects breaks, shorts, phase reversal, open connections and intermittent cables. Detects phantom power as well as having a test tone generator built in that is switchable between +4dB, -10dB and -50dB mic level so you can shoot a signal through a mic preamp for testing. 2 switches for selecting between tone generator and cable tester. TG level selection is the next switch and the obligatory press to reset/option switch is above these 2. Tests: Speakon, XLR-3, 1/4 TRS, USB-A, RCA, 5 pin Din for MIDI and Ethernet cables, LED status screen. Will not test TS 1/4 in cables, I carry a pair of adapters, 1/4 to RCA so that i can test TS (mono) sources through RCA connections; small price to pay for such versatility and ease of use. Tests correctly every time. I use it daily at the theater and have zero issues, it is reliable. I have been using the CT-200 for about 10 months now and am very happy with the device. Idiot-proof operation at a low cost. Will buy again, if necessary.

Very useful bit of kit.
The CT100 is a lifesaver in my small studio. It quickly checks XLR, TRS, TS, RCA, and MIDI cables, saving me hours of guessing when something isnโt working. Simple to use, reliable, and compact โ every home studio should have one.
