I usually scrape off the carbon layer with a safety razor, this gets the majority of the residue off otherwise you have a big smeary mess. After applying the glass cleaner I use a dry paper towel to remove the majority of the glass cleaner, I then use a damp paper towel to remove any residue. .

Perhaps, but not recommended. This product is for fire-created soot removal and does a good job for it's intended purpose. There are many oven-glass-cleaners on the market, made specifically to clean your oven door.

That said and not knowing which surfactant is used in this product it could contain AMMONIuM Windex glass cleaner has ammonium.
