Everyone needs one of these! You could save a life.
I was recently at the gym and a young man suddenly collapsed off an exercise bike near me and fell to the floor after hitting the equipment on the way down. I was shocked that the guy next to him screamed but no one did anything-so I ran over. Its been forty YEARS since I had any first aid and emergency training-but I quickly realized, this is an emergency. Young employee (about 20 years old also) ran over and went white. I could see he was terrified. I did all the first aid basics, determined the young man fainted, asked where the defibrillator was in case I needed it and had the employee dial 911 and bring electrolyte drink as the “patient” came to. The patient turned out to be fine but I realized-I need to re-study emergency basics and how to perform cpr and use a defibrillator (they have instructions but you do not want to be learning that on the fly in a panic situation). I then watched a bunch of tutorial videos to refresh my knowledge and keep this laminated card where I look at it routinely. Everyone thinks they know how to do something but panic or bystanders screaming can delay one’s thinking speed-so the best practice is to memorize the info. and go over it repeatedly so when the time comes-you can save a life.
