I read other reviews and put a blanket in it; right now there is a heavy wool blanket folded in half and a smaller camp blanket. I never actually had to get into the wool blanket, just slept under the camp blanket. The layer of canvas definitely holds warmth in and also keeps a small blanket from falling off of you. It's pleasantly wide and much more comfortable than a standard sleeping bag.
