We were planning a back country camping trip in the desert and I knew I needed a better solution since there would be NO privacy. desertcart did not deliver this in time so I had to pick one up from REI but I’m so glad I did. First, the main points: PROS: - Hard plastic makes it easy to hold and easy to use under shorts or with a zipper - Compact - I could literally pee almost anywhere! So much better than looking for a spot and worrying about getting pee on my clothes - Not hard to use like I imagined (didn’t get to practice at home first, but survived with no issues) - Very easy to rinse out and clean - Worth saying again, complete freedom! CONS: - Trying to tell my body it was ok to pee while standing took a little getting used to - Have to work and getting the process down. Learning how to juggle the thing, water to rinse, etc took some trial and error - The plastic storage bag doesn’t seem like it will last and I’ll need a different solution My first attempt at using this was in the dark while camping. Was able to figure it out easily enough, make sure the tube in inserted the correct way so you don’t have to worry about it coming out and you’re good to go. Trying to get my body to pee while standing was probably the hardest part, lol. It was easy to hold and the hose was long enough that I had no fear about getting anything on my clothes. I did find you needed to tilt forward at the end to make sure everything drained out. Once done is where I struggled more. Trying to keep in one hand not touching anything, wipe (it’s hard to undo years of training in the first attempt), zip up my shorts with the other hand, rinse it off, etc. After a few uses it got easier and I found a rhythm. I also found that having a little bottle of hand sanitizer in my pocket was great! I would highly recommend getting the hang of it first, and then taking it everywhere! Camping, fishing, road trips, public bathrooms, traveling, the uses are endless. Was so easy, no more squatting and trying to avoid things. I can use it and I am not a small girl (22/24) but so can my little 6 and 9 yr old girls. We use ours everywhere, not just on hikes but also in public restrooms. I've bought the other brands to try them, but freshette has been my favorite. I can have a full flow without spillage, unlike the others where I've leaked on my pants, and it's easy to clean, stow away and even after the bag it comes with breaks or whatever it fits perfectly in a ziplock bag and in my bag or cargo pocket. I never have to worry about showing any part of my body off while using this outdoors either so I'm protected from the elements. **Q: It says it comes with a pouch. How sturdy in the pouch? The Shewee comess with a case.** A: My Frechette is 23 yrs old & still have the travel pouch. Yesterday, I bought a mesh nylon purse bag w/ 2 zippers. Perfect b/c the bigger section holds my Freshchette & the smaller pouch will hold a small bottle w/ hand sanitizer for cleaning after use. I use essential oil blend diluted in water & confident it will work fine clean the Freshette after use. Zipper pull has a hole & I attached an S carabiner clip.
