Stargate SG-1: The Complete Series

The blu-ray picture is gorgeous. The series itself holds up very well--good stories, good acting, overall I'm glad I upgraded from my old DVD set.

Really one of the best shows ever written and produced. That’s about all that needs to be said.

I have been a die-hard fan of SG-1 and always wanted a DVD collection of my own. Had not been able to find a decent quality one within my budget. This set immediately caught my attention when it appeared on Amazon this summer. Most review gave it favorable rating. There was complaint about it froze on certain players and I knew exactly what it meant because I own a brand that is very picky. That is not a deterrence because I have other players. I couldn’t be happier with this purchase. The package is compact and decent. picture is clearer and brighter than anything I’ve seen of this series on TV or earlier DVD releases, although it is not the high resolution type of quality. I am half way into the series now and it hasn’t frozen once on my DVD player ( not the picky brand). Highly recommend. The review is only about the quality of the DVD set. The series itself is a classic, whether you would like it or not.

Good series

I have recently watched other shows on Dvd from the same time period, 90s and 00s, and they were both fair video quality. This is such a pleasure to watch. What a treat to watch a show that isn't available on blu ray yet at near 720 quality on a Dvd. The case is really nice and compact, especially considering it is a 10 season show. It seems to be an official release though I am puzzled how much cheaper this release is compared to the other releases that also aren't enhanced picture quality. The 5.1 surround sound functions perfectly and the subtitles function as well. I have only watched the first disc and second disc and have read others reviews that noted problems with some discs and I will update this if I encounter any problems. Edit (9-24) Well I have had no problems with episodes not playing or freezing. I still don't know how they are able to fit 6 episodes on each DVD disc and offer what I view as 720 quality. I watched the Babylon 5 series, the complete series Dvd's, purchased here on Amazon and this Stargate DVD set offers a supremely better picture quality than that. I also did note that episodes at the beginning of series are slightly out of order; it is only, to my memory, 2 episodes out of order, and only off by about 2 time slots. I only caught this because the same happened with the Farscape Blu-ray box-set so I looked for it when I started watching, checking against epguide. The episodes were only slightly out of order and really was not a big deal and it seems not an uncommon occurrence with these complete series box-sets.

The picture and sound is IMMENSELY better than the streaming on Prime Video...even better, you don't have to watch ads to enjoy it! After SG-1 was dropped from other streaming services, and after Prime started asking for more money for ad-free video (boo!), I bought this set, and was immediately stunned at just how much better it looks and sounds on blu-ray. This is an EXTREMELY good deal on TEN (10!) seasons (real seasons, not these 8 to 10 episode mini-series they call seasons these days!) of one of the best sci-fi shows ever produced. If you are a fan, this is a must buy...especially since you never know if you will lose the ability to stream it in the future.

I just bought the "Stargate SG-1 – The Complete Series "New Super Clean Picture" set. I have watched season 1 so far, and the sound and picture quality are pretty good. This set also seems to be the Showtime version. For example, the Stargate Sg-1 version that was airing on Amazon Prime was an edited version and had scenes and language cut out in Season 1, "Children of the Gods". I am happy that this set is the original and uncut version. UPDATE: 7-24-2020. I'm on Season 2 and the Episode "Gamekeeper" froze up on me and made my player freeze up as well :( Hopefully this is the only hiccup. This incident just happened after only owing this DVD set for two days. UPDATE: 7-26-2020. Just experienced another frozen episode in Season 2, "Show and Tell." I'm starting to get worried how many more frozen episodes I'm going to come across. UPDATE: 7-27-2020. Now I have a third episode that has frozen on me in Season 2. It's "Out of Mind." UPDATE: 7-31-2020. I watched all of Season 3 without any problems! UPDATE: 8-4-2020. I just finished watching all of Season 4 and had one episode freeze on me, "Point of No Return." UPDATE: 8-7-2020. I just finished watching all of Season 5 and had TWO episodes freeze up on me. They were "Between Two Fires," and "Revelations." I think at this point I can assume that I will continue to have frozen episodes throughout the remaining seasons on this DVD set. And please note, I do not have some cheap crappy DVD player. I have an expensive 4k Blue Ray/DVD Player by Sony. On my authentic DVD and Blue Ray sets they play fine. UPDATE: 8-11-20. I watched all of season 6 without any problems! UPDATE: 8-15-20. I watched all of season 7 and had ONE episode freeze on me, "Fragile Balance." UPDATE: 8-19-20. I watched all of season 8 and had ONE episode freeze on me, "Moebius (2)." So far HERE'S MY RECOMMENDATION regarding if you should buy this set: YES buy this DVD set if you are a fan of Stargate SG-1, and If you do not have a set so far, and you are okay with a few episodes freezing up on you. Overall around 90% of the episodes do not have any problems playing. I'm watching this set on my 4k blu ray player and THE PICTURE QUALITY IS BEAUTIFUL! The sound also sounds great on my sound bar. If you have an older DVD set of this show and you are not happy with the picture quality, then I also recommend getting this set. This is a 5 star show. I'm giving it 4 stars because of the handful of frozen episodes.

I was very pleased with the overall packaging. The discs are well protected in 2 booklets of pages and a single disc. The booklets are contained within a hard plastic clamshell type case. Watched thru five discs and no issues stood out. Again really liked the packaging, as compared to some collections I own.

I had been thinking about picking this set up for along time but reviews around to much DNR and surround sound issuess had put me off. However my wife got me these as a surprise for my birthday, I must say its been a pleasant surprise. The video quality for an upscaled set is great, yes there is some DNR but I'm watching on a 65inch LG OLED and this is best the shows looked compared with my dvd sets. The audio issues must have been fixed as I am on season 2 and I get full surround sound and it doesn't appear to be a bad sound convertion as voices only come from my front speaker and when there is gun fire or energy weapon fire I hear it from behind me in different directions. Sound is great from what I have heard so far. If you are a fan of this show don't let the negative reviews put you off.

Seasons 1-7 are not in HD, they're just upscaled to 1080p but still look better than their original DVD release. Season 8 is finally released in HD for the first time in this release along with Season 9 & 10 as they where before. All 10 seasons had their film grain removed which look much nicer and cleaner than their previous releases. Although not a true remaster this is the best version of SG-1 released so far. I especially liked that all the discs where packed in 2 large sleeve booklets, not a single one of them got scratched during shipping and they're much easier to handle than other Bluray releases.

Full of action and aliens. Don't know what is coming next.

The total series is just fantastic as it brings such imagination to you with losing track on our world . It’s super ….just a small criticism box for discs is not ideal as getting each one out without fingers all over them is hard

This product comes in a box with each disc slotted into a fabric sleeve. It makes it super compact and easy to store. When the item arrived I put each disc in my player and made sure that all of the episode titles matched and that each disc would play (The first 30 seconds). I am pleased with my purchase. All of the discs matched the episode list in the booklet, and all the discs had no issues playing. I'm half way through season one and I have not noticed any 'canned audio' or audio problems so far. There is a disclaimer on each disc that indicates due to the age of the series a person may or may not notice some issues. Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase and would definitely recommend for anyone looking for the full SG-1 series. I hope this review helped, happy watching.
