I have LOVED this since I first discovered it a few years ago when I looked for an indoor and patio solution for my two dogs. They LOVE THEM. I actually buy three outdoors and one for indoors so they have enough places to smell and use. My dogs are about 3.5 - 4 lbs each. Honestly this was THE BEAT solution I have yet to have tried and I have tried so many through the years. For ANYONE using real grass and getting the Amazon grass sold on here or the Fresh Patch… had terrible quality issues. Please DO NOT opt for them. Every time I would get them they would have baby ticks and mites under the grass. Just lift them up especially after a few days. I live in a high rise so I have no exposure to the outside and every time I would try them for a few years they would have ticks walking in and around it as well as a bunch of mites and other bugs!! So whomever is getting those are exposing your animal and yourself to these scary bugs. Bark Potty is a fabulous solution. I line mine with a couple pee pads and put them in a walled holder for them which is sold separately but it helps keep everything in the square especially for male dogs. I honestly don’t write many reviews but this is a solutions that needs to be celebrated more. While it can be more expensive then alternative solutions, you are paying for more time to not had to swap them out. The idea of grass can be good BUT due to years of quality issues with bugs all under them which seem to have eggs and they hatch when they are in place or a bit after, I highly recommend you look under to see what I saw over and over and over and chose Bark Potty. Do you want to change pee pads, have to walk your dogs after a long work day or early morning or make your dog have to wait until you can take them out?! This is a solutions to help you not have to do that and one I buy over and over and over again each month because nothing is comparable and it is good quality and lasts longer then other solutions out there. I am greatful to have discovered this wonderful brand and the solutions they create. Mu only suggestion to the brand is they can opt to add two additional walls on the side of the flap (since they have one) that instead of tearing it off, for male dogs you lift the flap and prop it up on the wall or in a holder potty area / rectangle holder…. And this was your male dog will be able to use the cardboard wall you created by using the flap. Again Best solution for someone that has tried just about everything there is on the market for dogs. I purchased this product for my mostly house-trained 3 month old puppy. For the past 2 months, my puppy has been successfully box trained. However, because the box is lined with weewee pads, I hated the urine smell it was leaving in my guest bathroom. Because this product claims to be naturally odor fighting, I thought I could swap out the box for this. Unfortunately, my puppy is more focused on eating the bark than peeing on it. It's only been 2 days, so I'm going to see if his behavior changes, but I'm not optimistic and fear we'll be right back to weewee pads. ————————————————————- 3/27/2025 update: I got a new puppy and decided to give this a try again. Thankfully she took to it immediately and has done very well with pottying on it only. HOWEVER, within a week the smell is horrific. My puppy weighs 8 lbs and does not use this exclusively for pottying-Only when I am not home-so I expected it to last at least 2 to 4 weeks. I have an air purifier right next to it but the smell of urine that comes from it is unbearable. I have tried spraying it with simple green to keep the odor down and that does not help. There is no way I can have this thing in my house so unfortunately, will not be continuing to use.

Alright, so, when I first tried this, my picky little doggie would not use it. They have a great video on training that I used, though, and she started using it while we were living in an apartment. Then when we moved to a townhouse with limited access to grass, it was like she realized it was the best choice and started using it. I freaking love the bark pad. What I like: (1) Dog doesn’t miss. My little girl had a tendency to miss a pee pad, and even if she didn’t miss a pee pad, she would often step in her own pee and leave a trail of pee paw prints. With the bark pottt, she climbs up the teeny ledge, goes, and then steps off. So no more missing!!! I love this. (2) High performance. This works for at least a month for a small dog. Look, if you have a large dog, you probably aren’t going to get a month out of this thing. But I have a 10 pound dog. We are the bark potty’s target audience. It lasts us 4-5 weeks with no problems at all with smell. Also no leaks and you have to look to see where she has peed. No need to clean the thing. Just put it by the door and leave it alone for your doggie’s use. (3) Accessories. I think this is far more attractive than a pee pad, but I would love to see more accessories. The company does make a nonslip mat, though, and a nice looking wooden box. I plan to order one of those soon. The thing I am most concerned about is that this will not be available in a few months because not enough people give it a long enough chance to work. Give it a try! Use their training methods. This is replacing pee pads in my house. So satisfied!

Update: I decided to stop using the potty bark box because it was so expensive. We had to replace it every 2 to 2.5 weeks because it smelled really gross (even on the balcony of the apartment). I tried a dog litter box with paper pellets, but puppy just ate them and strewn them all over the apartment. Also gross. Ultimately the thing that worked best for our puppy was the reusable/washable pee pads. I use Natures Miracle laundry booster and regular laundry detergent on them and they come out clean. Original Review: We are potty training our 11 week old puppy to use this bark box. I gave it 4 stars because, as other reviews pointed out, if the dog’s stool is mushy or he has diarrhea then the bark box goes into the trash. That hasn’t happened yet, but I did order an extra one for that eventually. We have trained puppy to go on the box (on the balcony of our apartment) and he makes it there most of the time or he goes on his walk. This has reduced the number of potty accidents that I have had to clean up in the house. We got this because the landscaping at our dog friendly apartment complex has a lot of bark around the plants and we thought that he might associate the act of peeing outside with the act of peeing on the bark box. That did actually work. We had it inside at first and he only used it once, but after we moved it to the balcony it has become his favorite potty spot. It is very expensive though, which is a negative. I also bought a plastic dog little box and paper dog litter pellets from Petco for puppy to use inside. So far he prefers the bark box on the balcony. Puppy does try to rip the bark out of the box for fun though. The bark box has been surprisingly durable against his efforts. Puppy also chews on the paper litter from his litter box and he drags/plays with the reusable pee pads that we put on the carpet in his favorite “accident” potty spots. My point is, that there is no perfect option, but this is working for us.

I REALLY like this idea. Yes, it is fully recyclable...which I really appreciate. HOWEVER, The ONLY reason for my three star rating, after a little bit of research on my own I found that bark/mulch is all of $3.50 a bag that would last two to three months. Bird netting is also SUPER cheep (that is the netting used over the top to keep your pup from dragging the bark all around the house. If I use a reusable tray and get my own bird netting and mulch/bark each month I found I would spend about $5 a month on this same concept. My two Havanese breed dogs (toy breed) used two bark potties and with in two weeks I needed to change it or it was filling my home with urine smell. While it was nice to not have to change pee pads multiple times a day $160 bucks every month is WAY too much to be charging for something that costs WAY less to do on your own. I am purchasing my own supplies to create a less costly version of this fabulous idea. I just cannot justify $160 a month for this when I can do it myself for $5 a month. That is a savings of $155 a month....$1,860 a year!!! What the heck. I would much rather only spend $60 a year than pad someone else's pocket that amount. I would be willing to spend $40 a month on this, but NOT $160.

When we were only four days in, I thought this was great for my German Shepherd/Husky Mix. Supposedly replaces 60 pee pads, which is about 3 weeks worth for us, and the price of this vs pee pads is relatively comparable. I used towels and washable pee pads for 2 months but really wanted the convenience of not having to touch and clean them constantly, but not have to keep buying pee pads, either. This worked great! But only for four days. I used the baggies to pick up poop, and there is much less smell than before! When poop sits on a pee pad or towel along with urine, it makes a lingering smell of mixed up urine and poop, in addition to just the poop. Here, I have only the poop smell until I clean it up! No ucky mixed smell, no urine odor. It had been awesome. Then came day 5, and the smell of urine. By day 6, strong odor. Today is day 7 and I need to get it out of here! So in my home, with one large dog using it and at least a couple of cats pooping there so presumably peeing as well, it does not last even a week. When I bought it, I thought I paid $35 which was pretty good if it really replaced 60 pee pads, but when I looked back at it the price is now $50. $50 per week is waaaaaaay too pricey. I can't buy this every week. I have 5 cats, and I'm not sure who, but some combo of them use it, too. Fine by me! I'm going to buy the smaller version for them, so they can have their own to replace one of the litter boxes. The scratching has yet to tear the netting or make a barky mess. So they'll still get one accessible to only them, and it'll be interesting to see how long it lasts. Loose stool that plops like melted soft serve ice cream worried me a bit, because for some reason our big boy goes between squishy plops and firm poop in the same day nearly every day (maybe every day). But I just pick it up with the bag, use toilet paper to scrape up what remains, and amazingly the residue seems to not be noticeable by sight or smell afterward. Nice! The included baggies are a bit difficult to access initially. I used the handle of a butter knife to bust the cardboard cover, then fished out the bags with the blade. I love how they're included and are right out of the edge there, but they only lasted until day 3. I really hoped this would last 3 weeks! This dog urinated a lot. It did not even last a whole week before needing to be replaced, which is very disappointing. Suggestions: 1) Ease up the bag accessibility 2) Lengthen the box, like as long as a towel. It does not need to be wider, but an extra 6 inchex wide wouldn't hurt though am extra 12 or 18 inches long would really be ideal; if twice as long, then the large dogs will have more surface area to pee, than pretty much just the center. I wish there was a smaller one, like the size of a litter box, not only so this would pretty much fit in a litter box but also so it could fit on the floor of the car for travel, in a carrier, and in a small area for a small dog. I have a small bratsky dog that insists on peeing in the kitchen and how awesome if there was one maybe 15x15 or 20 inches to place there. If the netting was metal, this would work well for a rabbit. I am going to try a real grass potty spot next, then write a comparison. If this bark potty had lasted longer (minimum two weeks instead of less than one week) and if the real grass worked out well, too, I would have just bought one of each set them end to end, with a gap in between so my big boy does not pee where they touch. Instead, I think I'll make my own bark potty that I dump every few days, and see if perhaps that is economical. I'll keep you posted!

I live in ja three level home with two patios upstairs. Bark Potty is perfect for my needs and my seven month old Havapoo! Thank you It doesn’t ever smell and it is lightweight so I can move it and it is long lasting. I have two of them. Wonderful!.

I was really disappointed in this product. I know it may work for some but it wasn’t a good fit for us (even with the recommended practice training guidelines). I had my neighbor‘s dog pee on it and my dog still would not use it. I believe it is too thick of a mat for her; it looked awkward for her to step up onto something to squat, and she lost her footing on the edge a couple times. I bought the largest size. I understand it takes some training for dogs who have already been trained to only void outside, but when I called for support, I was met with somebody interrupting me and repeating something they had clearly repeated multiple times to other people. When I tried to express concerns over forcing a dog to hold their urine for long lengths of time leading to UTIs (as years of evidence-based hospital practice with people has taught us), I was met with an argumentative tone and wasn’t allowed to finish my point/concern. The owner went on to say to me “I don’t know why I hear that so much, dogs can hold their urine longer than you think”, which was NOT the point of my concern. I feel as though if it’s something you are hearing from multiple customers as a concern, there probably is a reason it’s a common topic of concern. While I have no problem “eating” the cost of this un-returnable item that isn’t a good fit for us, I do have a problem with a small business almost arguing with me on the phone when I’m trying to ask relevant, evidence-based concerns/questions for the sake of the health of my aging dog. I would’ve loved to have tried their grass patch, but the customer service left a bad impression.
