Review: Very Good Train. I recommend this train for both kids and adults. - I am editing my review because of how quickly the batteries run out. This is a good train at an unbeatable price. Although the price is low, the quality is impressive. I have owned two of these trains and I love them both. It's only been a few years, so I can't attest to how it will hold up in 10 years +, but I have to say I'm pretty confident it will last a long time. You can just tell it's a good quality set when you pick up the cars and feel their weight. The controls are very simple and they're perfect for either a kid or an adult. I know it's mostly for kids, but I'm an adult and I just love it. I couldn't really afford to invest $400+ for my first train, and this one looks wonderful around the tree. It's awesome to have the remote which lets you control the speed, direction and play sound effects. If you're looking for a nice gift which can be used every Christmas for years to come I highly recommend this train. Also just so you know before purchasing: this is the cheaper model, so you won't be able to add additional cars like in the more expensive models of the Polar Express, but you can extend the track as long as you want, just make sure you buy the Ready to Play track. I rated volume control 1 stars, because there is no volume control, but it's a train and I wasn't really expecting that anyway. Ideally there would be a volume control, but it's ok as trains are supposed to make noise. Unfortunately the batteries don't seem to last that long, so just be prepared that you'll need to have a massive amount of batteries if you want to run it during the whole holiday season. Update: I think I've figured out that what happens: I think the batteries inside the controller weaken because I can't use the sound FX right now, but it still controls the train. When I turn the train on it doesn't have the train sounds either, but it still runs. I'm certain this will be fixed replacing the batteries, but I'm mentioning this because it is kind of a cool unintentional feature, because now I have the train still running and it isn't as noisy. So I think the batteries on the train last a while, but you just may need to replace the controller ones. I definitely recommend the train!
Review: Quality Item at a Great Price - Excellent quality train! My son is obsessed with trains and recently discovered The Polar Express. My husband and I discussed grabbing this for him for Xmas, but we were able to snag one from desertcart Warehouse at a great price, so we purchased early -- what an excellent decision! To start, this train is way larger than I anticipated, which was a great surprise! The quality is excellent and it's incredibly easy to set up -- everything I would expect from a Lionel product. Ignore the reviews saying it's "too hard to keep this on the track" and "the train keeps popping off the track. Some people obviously have no idea how a train works and it shows -- you have to be smarter than the toy. You literally line up the wheels on the track, and you're off for hours of playtime. It took us all of 60 seconds to connect all four cars together and line them up on the tracks. The train does not pop off the tracks, regardless of whether its going full speed or super slow. The sounds are great quality, and the controls are user friendly. My only complaint is that the battery door on the locomotive is a bit annoying to get off. Otherwise, this is a solid investment -- it is worth the price you pay even when it is offered at full price. We are considering purchasing another as an Xmas gift for family, we love it so much! 5 stars all the way!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Are there cars and accessories that can be added to this train?**
A: No additional cars can be purchased via Lionel. I’ve purchased the Harry Potter set which interchanges with Ready To Play sets like Pennsylvania RR & Disney Frozen but they have no interest in making individual cars or locomotives. What’s good though is that getting a second set adds that much more track. Get a track switch set and you can expand your oval to run in an inner loop design too. Drawback? Doing so takes a ton of real estate, can be too large in many homes.

**Q: Can you turn the sounds off?**
A: Disassemble the train upside down to access the speaker box. It'll all go back together again, don't worry. The speaker is housed inside the black round piece at the front of the locomotive. Remove the black round cap piece and discard. Flip the speaker so the holes face up and cover the whole thing with electrical tape. I also shoved some cotton balls the hole. Put the train back together, tape the holes on the underside behind the spring. It doesn't completely solve it but it's way better. Other option is to cut the cord to the speaker like another commenter replied but my version keeps the sound, only quieter.

**Q: What is the difference between the ready to play set and ready and straight track pack**
A: The ready to play set has enough track for a full circle or oval.  The ready and straight track pack are straight tracks to add to the play set to make a bigger area for the train to travel!  I got both so my grandsons could make a bigger track.  It’s a really nice train set!

**Q: would this train set fit into a christmas village setup or is it too big?  if the train is bigger than the homes it may not look right.  If too large,**
A: We used the Polar Express as the perimeter of a Christmas amusement park that included the LEGO Christmas train and an Eiffel Tower 3-D Puzzle. We added a K-Nex ferris wheel, a Cinderella castle 3-D puzzle, and the LEGO Christmas train station. One of the kids added LEGO Elsa frozen castle. Since this was the COVID Christmas and we weren't having the whole family over, we could spread out on the living room floor.

As others have stated, I read the reviews for this train and I was concerned about the quality but decided to try it out anyway. The set I received was much nicer and of higher quality than I would have expected given many of the negative reviews. I think you just need to know what to expect for what you are paying (for me, that was about $75) It worked properly out of the box. The track fit together just fine and it fit around what is about a 7 foot tree. I would recommend setting it up on a flat service as the engine has a bit of a tough time getting up any significant incline. I had it on a hard wood floor going up onto a rug and then back down. It slowed a bit, but made it around. The connections between cars are a little weak sometimes and can let loose. I fixed this pretty easily by just using a bit of scotch tape. The sounds and remote control are a nice touch and work very well. Overall know what to expect. For the price point, it is a nice little set. It is for someone who just wants a train to set up during the holidays, but maybe something a bit more than just the cheap set you can buy at your local drug store. It is not meant for any kind of serious hobbyist or collector. It is not very expandable so if you want more, I would suggest looking at a more expensive set which I will probably do once my son is a bit older and can appreciate it. For now, this works just fine.
