are these bettery quality than Harbor Freight? Do they bend and go out of square or even slip when clamping hard?

The clamps work fine as long as you're using your hands to tighten them you're using a pair of channel locks or something to tighten them the handles could break or something else you have to use them for what they're intended for otherwise they're just as good as harbor freights and over a period of time many many years then they may slip cuz I just had to get new ones cuz mine started slipping

do the pads easily fall off like most bar clamp pads do?

There are two types of pads on each clamp. On the fixed jaw it is a sliding rectangular pad, and on the sliding jaw it is a round pad that fits as a crown on the floating metal end of the tightening screw. Both pads are fitting securely on the clamp.

Can this be used as a spreader?
