Raspberry Pi User Guide

I am so grateful for this book. I bought it for the same reason that I buy most of my books: reading pleasure. I got the Pi with the intent of doing practical and useful things with it but also as a fun toy, a new hobby, something to learn with. And this book completes my fun starter kit, satisfying both the practical needs and the fun/learning part. It is well written with excellent intro material, including the history and philosophy behind the Pi. I have been using Linux for about 6 years now and have a technical background but even so, the intro stuff was nice to read. It also moves into more advanced topics, so it is much more useful than "Intro" or "Beginner" guides that focus just on getting you started. I am not finished with the book yet but I intend to read it cover-to-cover. It is that sort of book, rather than just a reference. I also got the more detailed Exploring book by Derek Molloy which is also excellent, and I recommend both these books the most (I have looked at others). However, I am less likely to read Derek Molloy's book entirely since it is a much more in-depth book and more like a text book (because that is one of the ways in which it is used). Also, some reviewers have complained about the figures in this book but I have the Kindle version and the figures are great. On a tablet they are in color and can be zoomed. So, I have no complaints and strongly recommend this as a first Pi book.

It really good book it's explain in a manner in the more simple way for some one like me that's is trying to get into this wonderful and ample world. I think touch every aspect and basic part of the pi. It give very amply or better idea in what is the pi and what you can do. ...

This latest edition of the Raspberry Pi user guide is, without a doubt, the essential information source for those who want to learn the basics ( and much more ) about this remarkable single board computer. Eben Upton does a superior job of keeping the reader interested, while imparting the kind of knowledge that makes the learning experience a rewarding one. Explanations are clear and detailed, and nothing is left out. If you're interested in exploring the Raspberry Pi - even if you have little to no prior knowledge going in - this is the book you should buy first. Highly recommended!

Great user's manual for beginners.

A good general text for learning how to use the Raspberry Pi system. Wiley books are always a good bargain.

Well written but not enough detail for me. There were some cookbook instructions but it was largely just an exposition of the Raspberry Pi's features, almost like a very verbose sales brochure.

A great introduction to the pi and it's history. Also includes some educational programming examples for beginners to help give you an idea of the many things you can do with this tiny computer.

Not bad for a beginner.

As a complete beginner to the Raspberry Pi (although I do have previous experience at programming), I found this book an easy read and a great introduction into grasping the basics. It begins with some background to the Pi and then takes the reader quickly into getting started and the fundamentals of Linux and the command line. There are some good chapters that offer an insight into the potential of using the Pi in different applications, in fact the book covers quite a range of subjects without going into too much depth but sufficiently enough to give you confidence in taking the next steps. There are some good starter guides to programming and even controlling external hardware such as LEDs or switches. Overall I would recommend this to anyone who is feeling somewhat overwhelmed at starting off with the Pi, it will encourage you to want to go further and learn programming. It's by no means a comprehensive reference or guide to programming in Python, but its a great introduction and definitely recommended.

Libro scritto da uno dei progettisti di RaspBerry e quindi certamente efficace. Non richiede particolari requisiti anche se forse un minimo di familiarità con Linux aiuta parecchio. Certamente orientato all'uso di RPi dal punto di vista software, decisamente orientato al Python, meno efficace sull'uso del connettore GPIO, per cui altri libri tipo Cookbook sono più mirati. Consegna e imballlo tempestivi come sempre

Probably the best intro book on getting started on the Raspberry Pi family of microcomputers. Well written by the creators so it’s very readable and easy to digest. One of my favourite technical books. Highly recommended. My only complaint is that the quality of the paper being used has gone down since the previous edition.
