some... the first time I used the case the update failed but recently an update went through with no problem

Is the battery used in this the same as rhe original? I need to replace the battery in my original but can't find a place to buy just the battery.

It is not the same as the original, and it won't sync to your phone as the original one did but, it will charge your buds perfectly. I have had this charger for about 6 months and carry my buds everywhere everyday and have had no problems as you can't buy a replacement Samsung case / charger alone... this is a good option.

This case doesnt actually charge itself like the origional? Its only for charging the buds?

no, its charges itself as well but it doesn't show the charging status of the case in the wearables app. it only shows the buds status while the case always says 0% even when the case is fully charged

Can the actual battery level be displayed on the charging case?

No, but there are indicator lights, different colors can show the approximate charging status. it charges my galaxy bud pro very well, great product!
