I've been self-taught sewist for 46 years, but never knew this book could be so helpful. This book has tons of great information for the beginner and advanced sewist. It covers basics for sewing, but goes beyond with specific fit problems with your subject and how to fix it on your patterns. It also provides different ways to adapt your patterns. With tons of photos and easy to understand instructions, this will also stay next to my sewing machine for quick reference.

This book is great. The illustrations are super helpful. I just started sewing and this book has some great information that details so many aspects of sewing. It explains fabric types, threads, patterns, stitches, tools, and so much more. I highly recommend it.

I have been sewing since I was a child. My grandma introduced me to the art of sewing. I grew to love it over the years. When my children were in grade school I made all of their shirts. Now at 80, I still enjoy sewing, but sometimes having a problem I can refer to my wonderful book, Ultimate IllustratedGuide Guide to SEWING CLOTHES. Now I spend time making little girls dresses. The other day, I had a problem with buttonholes...so...out came my book and answers. Now if, as an older seamstress I can find answers, you as a younger person will find everything you need in this book. Keep this book along with your machine book & warrantee book. Perhaps you have a friend or relative that can guide you. Give it a try, it is fun and you will surprise yourself with your creations.

I like the size, the colored pictures, the binding allowing the book to lay flat as you are referencing it while sewing, etc. It is more detailed than I am good at sewing, but as I progress I know I will be utilizing it more. So so much good information in it. I particularly liked the photos and descriptions of how different fabrics are made and how that affects drape and sewability and how it wears. That alone is worth owning this book. This book is very technical with a lot of good information for all levels of sewists. Lots of variables included in how to customize patterns, but author recommends her book CREATE THE PERFECT FIT for more explicit details on pattern customizing.

The information in the book is getting 5 stars. However, the seller chose to send it in a padded envelope which barely fit. The book was not protected sufficiently and the corners of the top front and back are bent. Will the corners start peeling away at a later time I do not know. So I’m faced with shipping it back for a replacement or taking my chances. Do people even care about good service anymore?
