I am now 60. I take Stellara, which does very well for my psoriatic arthritis. However at my age I have started to develop osteoarthritis. The NSAID prescribed helped but my knees had been causing a lot of discomfort. Someone suggested turmeric. Before starting turmeric I checked with my PCP. She not only OKed it suggesting I may get some relief for my joint pain, but informed me of a study at the University of Virginia. The study was to the effects of turmeric for Alzheimer's and Dementia. My doctor has prescribed it for a patient for signs of mental aging with positive results. For me, my joints do seem to be improved while taking turmeric. I had ran out and kept forgetting to reorder when I had my last flare-up with my knees. I have been back on turmeric now for about 2 1/2 weeks and my knee pain has dissipated to the point of being unnoticeable. I would strongly recommend at least trying turmeric if you are having joint pain. I also recommend seeing a Rheumatologist. It is important to gain as much control over the inflammation as movement against the inflammation causes farther damage to the joints. I am a smoker and I was concerned with so little time before the surgery even though I was cutting back on the nicotine, that I needed something that would completely counteract the effects of the nicotine and aid in my recovery from my surgery. I received my turmeric within two days and started it the day I received it. I did increase the dosage my 2 tablets more per day just because of what I was needing it to do.
