Love this map! It’s really well made and sturdier than regular poster. It comes with a guitar pick to scratch with. A great buy!

This is going to amazing for my first visit to Japan to track where I've been, what I've done/eaten out of what they suggest. Its a lot more pastel than the photo looks but it's very pretty and I didn't honestly notice that it was a scratch off map with the way it looked. I'll probably bring something back to scratch with to make it more fun.

I've been to Japan a few times now, so when I saw this scratch-off map I was pretty excited to get it. The idea of marking off the areas where I've been and the challenge of planning to mark off new places appeals to me. And, well, it is pretty cool, with a few problems... First, the map has some pretty major omissions and odd choices. Picking things out from my own travels, neither Sendai or Nagoya are represented, and those are some pretty major cities. Neither is Kanazawa – the Dinosaur Museum in Fukui gets a large space, but there's no sign of Kenroku-en, one of the three great gardens of Japan? I know that space was limited and they had to make some choices, but it is a bit of a downer when a lot of the major places that I've gone to aren't there. The map is on some nice heavy paper stock, which I'm sure is great for withstanding all of the scratching. But the downside is that it's practically impossible to get this map to roll out flat. It just wants to snap right back into the rolled position the moment you give it any slack to do so. It's pretty much necessary to weigh down the corners to keep it from doing so. Not a huge deal, but the scratcher included isn't the pen-shaped one shown in a few of the product photos, it's more like a guitar pick. It works. Overall, this is fun if you can avoid taking it too seriously.
