A very nice starter fly line from Rio, just like you would fight at Bass Pro or Cabela’s and, if I remember pricing, may be a bit cheaper!

The Rio Mainstream fly line I ordered is reasonably priced and suits my purposes very well. Fished with it today and encountered no issues. Now I'll see how it holds up. One observation: the line doesn't come with preformed loops on each end. A couple of nail knots aren't difficult, but would factory loops jack up the price?

This is a well-regarded brand of fly line that is generally considered a good value. Local stores did not have this line with the particular specifications I wanted, so I looked for it on Amazon and bought it there. I wanted a fly line with the specs I was accustomed to, but the stores were catering to what is currently more popular. I use a lot of other RIO products with confidence.

As I worked at developing a tuned double haul, my line preference shifted, as others have found, to longer belly, more gradually tapered lines like SA Trout and SA Infinity Salt. Once you double haul well you are not dependent on heavily wt forward line to achieve line speed and deal with wind - you can dial it up yourself. Thinking that maybe a level double taper line might be the logical evolution, I got this economical line in 5wt to try a DT. Tried it on my 9’ 4 & 5 wt Sky G rods & found diminishing returns compared to SA Trout and Rio Technical Trout. Sure, the DT presents well; but equal or even better presentations, including roll casts, are easy with the other lines. I found I prefer long, gradually tapered lines at all distances. The DT was an experiment that, for me, confirmed that the other lines are still my favorites.

Bought this to use on small mountain streams. Used on a small simple reel, there was much more line than the reel could handle. Decided to cut the double taper line in half, so have two for the price of one. Casting was more than adequate for the situations.
