Its super fine so i can get beautifully small, neat stitches with it, its spun tightly so no burs and it just glides through fabric. Its so smooth that it slips through my needle. If you have never used Kimono silk sewing thread, I cannot recommend it enough. It is stronger than cotton or polyester sew-all (standard 50 weight), even though at 100 weight this thread is much finer. It also sews like a dream, doesn’t snag, produces practically no lint, and tangles far less than standard cotton or poly threads. However, for hand sewing I would still recommend lightly waxing the thread to reduce tangles as hand sewing will always lead to tangles as the thread is handled. $15 for a spool of thread might seem expensive if you are just starting to look into higher quality materials, but it is a fair price and absolutely worth it. Over a thousand yards of thread will last a long time, depending on your projects, and if you look strictly at yardage and price (and ignore quality/fiber content) it is less than 2 cents per yard, which is often what you will pay for standard sew-all’s. If you are new to silk thread, kimono silk (which is just the name of this size/brand) and tire silk/superior threads (the manufacturer/supplier) in general are fantastic.
