Major Change in mindset
I've been overweight my entire adult life. This book put into perspective my battle over good foods and bad foods. I just finished the book but I feel more capable to address emotional eating problems than I ever had. I had a lot of moments reading this book that was like a lightbulb going off and things made sense. One of my favorite lines was from Key 6 -"No matter how stuck you feel or how difficult it is to solve the problem, you always have control over how you look at a situation, and changing that can have a profound impact on the stress you experience".

Food does not alter us???
Only on page 26 but, I find the style of writing dry and not flowing. It makes reading all the information a bit un compelling. Also, on p27, the author arguments against food being qualifiable as a source of addiction. One of his key argument is ‘food doesn’t alter the way our brain and body normally function, so we can’t develop a tolerance to it’I believe each bit I ingest does affect my body very much one way or another (brain is just another amazing part of our amazing body by the way . Not sure why it is dissociated from it in so many instances) .I do develop a tolerance to some type of food. If I stop eating them for a while, my body will react a certain way when I do; and another when I start eating it again.I think food very much alters the way I function...or sometimes dis-function.What about sugar craving? My questions might get answered later in the book. And I will update that comment and book rating when I have finished to to read the book. But so far, not so good...

My favorite read on the subject of emotional eating
I am glad I found this book. It's a valuable resource, for health care providers and clients alike. As a non-native speaker, I found it easy to read and understand. The author offers immensely helpful points of view on emotional eating presented in a way I have not seen before.- A lot of the psychological literature I have come across over the last 5-10 years tends to focus on difficulties in emotional regulation as the core issue in emotional eating. And it sure is important, but the author offers so much more.- The influence of dieting is discussed, which I appreciate deeply as a health care provider working in the field.- The importance of autonomy plays a key role in this book which I find very empowering and fitting considering the majority of clients who come to see me for emotional eating.- The book fosters actual problem solving skills instead of "simply" focusing on emotional regulation. It is a very practical book offering a multitude of strategies and skills to actually cope with the issues that lead to emotional eating, working on it from different angles.I have been discussing the models and skills from this book in seminars with other health care professionals as well as in sessions with clients and every person has benefited from them. I recommend this book frequently and I am sure it is going to be one of my favorite resources on the subject for years to come.
