I'm Sorry
I listen to old radio shows to fall asleep to, and the volume levels can fluctuate quite a bit. I had this in my wish list for years but for some reason never got around to ordering it. Well I finally did and very happy with this control. The cord is only about 39 inches, but that's OK for my use. Cord is soft and pliable feels like it should last quite awhile. Turning the volume dial creates no clicks, static, etc. Perfectly silent as it should be. What you would expect from Koss. Great company. Wish I still had my old Pro 4 AA headphones. Now it turns out I;m sorry. Sorry I waited so long to get this volume control, it works great. And for those who need it---No it will not make your device louder, but it will let you control the volume you have, and do it right 0-100%

Smooth volume control from quiet to full-volume
High-quality volume control - Smooth volume resolution from quiet to loud. I bought an off-brand before this and it had no low-volume resolution at all. That one went from quiet to loud almost immediately, and from there ramped up to full volume. These Koss ones work beautifully. My lesson learned - stick with a true audio company.

A great idea, but the jack breaks easily where it plugs into your music player
I tend to be very selective when it comes to earbuds. One of the things I prefer in every pair of earbuds I use is an extra volume control in addition to the one from my iPod. Therefore, this little appliance is perfect: theoretically, I can use any pair of earbuds I want, as long as I use this thing along with it. This volume control is slim and compact, and does the job fantastically. Some things that could be better: In my opinion, the cord could be shorter. For the most part, most earbud cords are long enough for everyday tasks, so adding an extra 3 or 4 feet is overwhelming and unnecessary. The volume control could be a little smaller--I have an iPod nano 4G and it adds bulk when I wrap up my earbuds. The port for the earbud jack (inside the volume control) is a little defective on my volume control, and so when I connect my earbuds, it doesn't connect smoothly. I have to push it a little harder and it clicks louder. This is the second Koss volume control that I've purchased and it seems that for all of these, the jack where it plugs into your iPod or mp3 player is not durable. When I twist the wire just under it from side to side, it sounds like my music is switching from stereo to mono sound (mono sounds like it's being played to you down a tunnel or similar). So don't expect this thing to last forever, even with gentle care.

Does the Job
My mid-eighties Pioneer CD player -- now used as a bedside player -- has proved to be a better sounding and more reliable machine than a series of inferior-built portables. The only problem with the Pioneer is that there is no volume control for the headphone input, and with a sensitive pair of cans (Grado SR80s) way too loud. The Koss VC20 Volume Control performs as advertised. It's a simple, lightweight volume attenuator that brings down the volume to a bearable listening level. Please note that it's not an amplifier, which means it's great for dialing down the volume, but is not going to amplify a weak signal. One reviewer here complained that the high-end was degraded as the control decreased the volume. Not so in my experience. It's natural for the high-end to lose some brightness as volume decreases, and is especially a problem for old ears that are losing their ability to hear higher frequencies as decibel level decreases. It sounds fine to me. This little Koss volume control is a cheap and effective device. After a few months, I'm still satisfied with the purchase.

Unusable - plug would not sit correctly
I bought this because giving Tidal exclusive control of my little soundblaster play 3 locks the volume at max (real fun experience finding that out), so I had get either a little volume control like this or just go all in and buy a DAC. Given the times, I decided to get the former and narrowed it down to this or the volbox and, well, lemme just say I'm not going to spend $20 on what's essentially just a potentiometer and a knob when I could upgrade to a proper budget DAC/amp for just over double that. Anyways, onto the product at hand. I figured the Koss VC20 was it: low price, Koss' reputation for fantastic value, and a simple solution. Package comes in, I received the same red-labeled new model that recent reviewers have been getting. My iems go in one end of the VC20, the other end goes into my sound card, turn the volume to about half, I queue up a Master quality track on Tidal... It's fantastic... for all of 10 seconds. The audio quality started degrading very, very quickly. I tried the ol' unplug and plug back in to see if that was the problem and that gave me another few seconds before the song faded into static-y distortion. "This isn't right", I say, plugging the volume control into my phone to see if it's happening there too and, you guessed it, same soup, just reheated. After a bit more fiddling I found out that the plug wouldn't sit right in the port unless I constantly applied as much force as I could to constantly keep the plug shoved in, otherwise it would start slipping out of alignment and ruining the signal. Instant return. Immensely disappointed with Koss for this product. Guess I'm just going to bite the bullet and pick up the DAC I was eyeing.

Great volume control
I bought this when my Skullcandy earbuds with their in-line volume control died of broken wires and I had to resort to using the earbuds that came with my iPod (horrid things). I use them at work and need a way to turn them down quickly if I need to hear something. This volume control far exceeds my expectations, especially considering the price. It performs much better in terms of range and resolution of control than the built-in one. The packaging claims it "increases volume", but I have yet to verify that and don't see how it's possible without some form of power. The extra cording and clip are great extras, too. I usually tuck all the extra wires into my shirt to keep them out of my way while working, and was constantly losing the built-in control inside my shirt. This one clips onto the shirt front or pocket (still figuring out where it's best located) so it's always easy to reach. Only two issues to report - the springiness of the clip and the company's customer service. There isn't much of either. The clip is easy to bend. So long as you clip it to similar thicknesses of materials, it's fine, but if clipped to something thick such as a jeans pocket the clip will be sprung open enough that it will not clip to a thinner fabric later. A pair of needle-nosed pliers will put it back into position for thin fabric pretty easily, but I don't believe should be necessary. There are better metals more suited to that type of duty and the clip should be made of one of them instead of what it is now. I don't know how Koss' customer service will respond if there is a problem, but I first e-mailed them about how pleased I was on the VC-20's performance, and then again later about the clip issue (not complaining, just letting them know). That was several weeks ago and I have yet to receive any response on either, not even an automated "we got your e-mail and someone will respond shortly". Their website had great testimonials on their high level of service and customer satisfaction, but I haven't seen anything to prove it. Overall this is a wonderful volume control. I am very pleased with it, would buy another, and recommend it to anyone wanting an in-line volume control. In fact, I have dropped "in-line volume control" from the spec list of my next set of listening devices.

Excellent for MP3 players with FM tuners
I already have two "no name" inline volume controls, but I needed another. This Koss unit was no more expensive from Amazon than another "no name" from an electronics store, and I've been a big fan of Koss since the late 70s, so I bought it. First, what it IS and ISN'T. This is a volume control, but NOT an amplifier. It will make your MP3 player, etc., quieter, but NOT louder. If your source is too quiet, look for a headphone amplifier. When I used to listen to a cassette walkman it was easy to turn down the volume when I needed to. The volume control was a thumbwheel right on the player. I have several MP3 players now, and they all have hi-tech context sensitive controls. This means (for me, anyway) that I have to look at the screen to make sure the button or slide control is set for volume. This control solves that problem. Set the player for a volume slightly on the loud side and use the inline control to get comfortable sound. If you need to lower the volume (to talk to someone, for instance) you can use the volume control without taking your player out of your pocket. This model has a three foot cord between the player and the volume control. This is nice if your player has an FM tuner -- MP3 players use the headphone cord as an FM antenna. My generic ones were only about 8 inches long and the FM reception suffered. The control has a clip on it, so you can wear your player safely in a padded pouch on your belt and clip the volume control to your chest pocket. A few reviewers have noted that lowering the volume attenuates high frequencies. I tried using the EQ settings on my player (I was also using Koss PortaPro headphones). When I had Bass Boost EQ settings I did notice some high frequency attenuation in both the Koss and generic inline volume controls; when the EQ was turned off I didn't notice as much high frequency attenuation, but the sound was very "flat." Anyway, I don't think I would have noticed it if other reviewers hadn't pointed it out. An inline volume control is very handy for portable MP3 players, etc., and this unit is well thought out, and works great.

Bastante contento con su funcionamiento, no me molestaría pagar un poco mas por algo con materiales Premium (Pero este se veía como la mejor opción) pero es bastante buena, cumple y no introduce ruido.

Works great and as advertised
If you are looking for a compact inline volume control as an extension, for either earbuds or headphones when it may not be easy for you to control the device directly, I would highly recommend this.
