I took Solgar Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol) 125 mcg (5000 IU) during breastfeeding to support my own health and to provide benefits for my baby. I’m very happy with the quality of this supplement. My doctor told me I had a severe vitamin D deficiency. I was advised to take 5,000 IU daily and that it would take at least 4 months to get my body to normal levels. When I went to the store to buy some vitamine D, I noticed a vast array of prices for the 5,000 IU and decided to do some research, before making a purchase. The research indicated that attention should be paid to the oil that the vitamin D is suspended in, because some manufacturers use unhealthy oils. Some websites claimed that vitamin D is better absorbed with oil, while others claimed the opposite. I also noticed that the "dry" vitamin D supplements cost quite a bit more. Because I also take Carlson's Lemon Flavored Fish Oil (this is the only product that doesn't come up on me), I did not want to ingest more oil. So, I selected Solgar's VegCap version. After taking one pill daily for about 8 months, my blood tests indicated that I am now only slightly deficient. So, I know that this product is moving my bloodwork in the right direction and I noticed pretty immediate changes in my cognition and vision when I first began taking it. It would be interesting to test whether my body does better with the gelcaps (suspended in oil), over the VegCaps (dry) that I'm still using, but it takes so long for your body to adjust, plus the blood tests are very expensive. I've read some reviews on other vitamin D products that contain weird oils that triggered alergic reactions, or that ran promotions to manipulate reviews (like give us 5 stars and you'll get a discount, etc.). So, I'm still most comfortable with purchasing Solgar's VegCaps. My initial purchases were at Whole Foods, but the cost is quite a bit less through Amazon.
