Can these bottles be used without the flow valve? My son is having lip surgery next month to correct his cleft lip.

Yes you can buy bottles with out the valve. The valve makes it easier for babies to suck with cleft palates.

are these different from the standard bottles?

It is actually the cheapest way to get them. They were selling just the blue valve as a replacement but it was $20. also and you got just 3 and they didn't come with a bottle. I don't see that option right now. You can call Dr Brown and tell them what you have going on and they may help. I called them and thought they were super awesome. They actually sent us some free stuff, but again this system has not been available long and it was before it came on the market. My daughter is just 11 months.

Does this product come with preemie nipples or Level 1?

Can you just buy the blue rings that fit into the nipple for the cleft pallete

No, you can contact Dr. Brown's directly and ask them for purchasing. We got most of ours from our cranio-facial team and speech therapist during her feed evaluations at the hospital. I would also try there.
