Only upto Size 6 shoes, you can get 2 pairs in one compartment. Shoe sizes 7 is very tight. Size 8 and above, no chance. Can only fit 3 shoes in each compartment

Can I remove one cube and use it as a single cube storage due to space restriction? Will I have enough panels to cover all sides, or are they shared?

Panels are shared, you can have single tiered cubes but you will have wastage/surplus panels because you will not have enough side panels.
