This is the second time I've bought these and I was debating between 4 and 5 stars but settled on 5 stars because my gripes are things I only experienced outside the normal usage of this item. For 8 months my badge lives in my hip pocket with the reel dangling out while the other 4 months I wear it on my lapel. While in my pocket it banged around on alot of things which deteriorated the finish of the reel, bent the clasp, cracked the housing, and the screw that holds the 2 halves of the housing together loosened and prevented the cord from retracting. I was able to bend the clasp back into working order and disassemble the reel to rewind the spring and cord which now works like normal. Even with a cracked housing and worn finished it looks and works good. I've never lost my badge because the snap that attaches to the badge keeps it secured to the reel. The price is more than fair for the quality of the product. It's about as easy to use as it can get.

Fiber cord on badge holder broke after 10 1/2 months when retracting it Still recommend over a cheap/flimsy badge holder as your badge isn't going to break/fall off while you're walking around. Clip and plastic connector to badge are very sturdy and seem like they would last years before breaking. Glad this came in a pack of two. I'll update when the second one breaks.

Absolutely the best! Only reordered because after almost four year of daily use, the first vinyl ring-strap began to give out. String, retracting spring, and belt clip still going strong.

Strong, last a long time even with all the tugging.

I was looking for a durable badge reel because the cheap plastic ones always seem to break after a few months. Based on the description, this all-metal, heavy-duty reel from Will Well seemed like the perfect, long-lasting solution. Right out of the package, the build quality is impressive. The glossy black casing is solid metal, and the UHMWPE fiber cord feels incredibly tough, like it could last for years. It definitely lives up to the "heavy-duty" name in terms of its materials and construction. However, the "heavy-duty" aspect is also its biggest flaw for my needs. The retraction mechanism inside is *extremely* strong. I only carry my ID badge and one key, and when I let go after swiping my card, the reel yanks back with so much force that it often pulls the entire clip right off my belt loop or shirt pocket. I find myself having to re-clip the whole unit back on several times a day, which defeats the purpose of convenience. I think this reel would be fantastic for someone who carries a much heavier load—like a custodian with a large bundle of 5-8 keys, or someone with a small but heavy tool attached. For that kind of weight, the spring strength would probably be perfect and prevent sagging. But for just a standard ID badge, it's complete overkill. Pros: * Excellent build quality with all-metal construction. * The pull cord is extremely strong and durable. * Would easily support a heavy set of keys without sagging. Cons: * Retraction spring is far too powerful for light loads (like just an ID badge). * Aggressive recoil can pull the clip right off your belt or clothing when you are scanning the badge. In the end, this is a well-made product that unfortunately doesn't work for my specific use case. It’s too powerful for its own good unless you plan on weighing it down significantly.

The Badge holder is as advertised, great price for two holders and arrived sooner than expected.

I've used these for a while as a security officer and when they work they're good. However there are two issues and the second one is why I'm giving it one star. 1. The button wears out after about 4 or 5 months. Eventually your keys will just fall off as it won't have the tightness anymore to stay buttoned. Not a huge deal because you can just use the key ring on them. 2. This is why I'm giving it one star. Some absolute genius cheaped out on the screw. There's one screw holding this all together. If this screw gets even slightly lose it WILL come apart and it is a NIGHTMARE to try and reassemble. The reason is the designer cheaped out on the screw. When reassembling it the screw is JUST slightly too short to make contact with the threading. If I take the clip off it makes contact and will tighten. But opening is larger than the screw head so it passes through and the thing falls apart. All this hassle could have be avoided if the designer had not been cheap and just made the screw a millimeter longer. Heck, even HALF a millimeter and I could easily reassemble this thing. I put my entire bodyweight down to try and force contact and even then it didn't work. I don't know what Blackmagic they're using to get this thing together but I can only surmise it was either them being incredibly cheap, or most likely it was done so once it came undone you wouldn't be able to put it back together without either knowing what technique pr tool they used to assemble it and thus are forced to buy a new one. For this reason I have to give one star. Absolute joke.

Doesn’t come setup. Difficult to do by oneself

Item actually feels solid compared to the cheaper retractable cords you can get. You can feel the quality difference in it when using it. Only thing that people may not like is that it is significantly heavier than I expected, but I guess this shows it's quality.
