I submerged this in a bowl of water for a couple hours to test out after receiving before my vacation and the paper inside stayed totally dry! Last year I bought one of those "waterproof" plastic cylinders with the screw lid on a lanyard type string. It was a slight disappointment. While it didn't totally fill with water it did get water it it and moisten a bit. This is nice because well for 1 it stays dry, but also it has enough room for cards and a room key if need be. I am not a smoker but quite a few cigarettes and a lighter could also be added in there as well. I took past reviewers suggestions and bent the cardboard that was inside and was careful taking it out as to not damage the case. It took a little bit of fan-dangling but was not a big issue. I am happy I spent the money on this! Review: It usually works - I've used it in the ocean about a dozen times and a few times there was a little bit of water inside the pak when I'm done.
