If i mount this directly to my canon 7D, Can i use it to trigger 2 PocketWizard 801-130 Plus III Transceivers attached to 2 off-camera flashlights?

Absolutely! I use them that way all the time. The PlusX and Plus IIIs work together well.

So one of these attaches to the camera. Will the other one attach to an alien bee 800? This is all I need or do I need to buy a separate receiver?

these should come with the cables...attach with cable to your alien bee, and the other goes on the hot shot, set both to the same channel, and you should be good to go. I was using this at an outdoor shoot, I turned them on, and the lights did not fired and I thought they were not working, but after a while, the 2 units started communicating, and it worked fine. So the next time, I turned both on sooner, so the signals got time to bounce all around and there were no problems

Why is the 2 pack more expensive than 2 - 1 packs?

Must be a mistake. The 2 pack has always been cheaper.

I currently have a pair of pw plus iii and use them with my speedlites. will the pw plus x transceivers work with the plus iii's?

It will work with limitations. Basically, it will trigger on channels 1-10. PW has a great wiki on these that is pretty clear and very comprehensive. I have 4 and love them!
