I am absolutely in love with this journal! It's gorgeous, and as soon as I opened the package I smelled it and swooned. The smell of brushed leather is my favorite. There is literally nothing negative I could say about this gorgeous work of art. I'm amazed by the price, in all honesty... I think it's worth much, much more than the listed price. It's extremely soft from all angles... Even the pages are soft! I slept with it last night. I'm not one to keep journals, so I don't understand my love for this one. I got this for my Grimoire. I've ordered a couple others and gave them to my niece... I just didn't "feel" them. This one, however, is perfect. Enough of my creepy journal stalker talk. As stated, it's soft. The leather is aged and extremely good quality. It has a heavy weight to it, which is nice. There is no clasp, but instead a long leather strip that wraps around it several times... Also very good quality. The pages are made of cotton, and it shows. They're also soft and have a nice weight and feel to them. There was a protective "sleeve" between the leather and the first and last pages, to prevent staining and damage... Which I'm very happy for. The journal itself was in an envelope, however it was within a burlap pouch, which was also wrapped in plastic. I was so relieved about that, since it rained the night it was delivered. It's very thick... Full of pages. Many, many pages. And it looks like you can replace these pages once they're filled up with no real issues. You'd probably need to remove some stitching. It is GENUINE leather. The smell reminds me of a tack shop (I grew up with horses, so this is comforting). The company helps children in Africa and believes in being eco-friendly, which really shows in their craftsmanship. This is by far the most gorgeous item I've ever ordered off Amazon. I already had a coworker order one as well. Highly, HIGHLY recommended.

I love Moonster! They make quality journals and I carry one in my satchel and carry it with me and journal. I've actually been using them for 3 years now and have filled up 3 and buy more just to support them! If you need a great journal I totally recommend this one! They also sell bags and such so if your into that go for it!

This is seriously THE most beautiful notebook I have ever seen in my life. The leather is undoubtedly real and is so soft to the touch. It has a subtle earthy, leather scent that sets the mood for your journaling or writing time! The wrap around closure string on this notebook gives off really retro vibes. Just looking at the notebook makes me want to write! The pictures don't do it enough justice. The paper on this journal is of unbelievable quality. They are thick and borderline cloth like, and writing in them makes me feel so inspired. They are a more cream color than straight up white like the pictures show, which I personally prefer because it looks so much more vintage and romantic. The pages are NOT refillable as they are bound into the spine, but that just makes you treasure every page of the book even more than you already will. However, if you make lots of mistakes when writing and you're a bit of a perfectionist like me, you should write in pencil first before writing everything down in pen. The leather does stain the pages (and probably your belongings if you shove them all in your bag), so be aware of that. I will probably find a cloth to wrap around this when I travel so I don't stain my bag haha. This journal was so beautiful that when i first opened it, I couldn't bring myself to write on the paper because my hands kept shaking. I did buy this on sale at around $23, but even if this goes back to full price I would not hesitate to buy it. It is SO worth the price and is much higher quality than other even more expensive journals that I've seen. It's no wonder why it has a 5 star rating with over 300 reviews. The size (7x5) is the perfect size to take on your travels or on the go without limiting your soace and creativity. If anything, I would be scared to put this in my suitcase in fear of it getting scratched somehow. >\\< If you like bigger notebooks though, they have a size up! Because the leather is soft and pliable, the flaps don't get in your way at all when you write. I admit I was a little hesitant on buying this because of the pages being bound in the book, and because I thought it wasn't very pretty from the pictures, but trust me. Whatever you see on the pictures isn't even a tenth of the beauty you see in person. The only con I can think of is that now, I will never be able to purchase any other journal because it will never compare to this one. I'll probably end up with a bookshelf of these by the time I retire :3 If I could marry an object, I would marry this notebook.

This is absolutely the best journal I have ever owned! The workmanship is 5 star. I do not know the weight of the paper. It is not really heavy. If you are used to working on hot press or cold press paper, you will like this. I do not know how much water it will take as I used very little for my tiny watercolor sketch. As Indian handmade paper goes, this is nicer for me. If you like rough paper, this might be too smooth for you. If you can read my writing, you can see the sharpie was fine. The micron I used at the bottom did not bleed but it did show through. For insurance against bleed through, I cut a piece of yupo paper to put underneath the painting, writing page. I did give 5 stars for quality. I did not want to take off one star for a tiny little dislike I had. I did not like that a person had to buy the pen and box to get a journal with a little pen tab sewn in. That was not nice. I think both the gift box one and the other should both come with the sewn in tab for the pen. Actually, from a business standpoint, the tab, although adding a little cost would streamline the overall process since the journals would not have to be either produced in different areas, or separated initially. In other words, it takes time to check whether the journal is going to be one with or without a pen. Also, the pen could be sold separately. I would also like to see a model with a little pocket in the back since artists and people in general collect items on trips that they would like to keep with the journal. Obviously, that would be a more expensive item. Lastly I would like to say, I love that this company donates some proceeds to help African children. What a wonderful way for us to feel good while being extravagant!

I’m upgrading the score of this journal to 4-Stars. I now realize the paper is hand cut, and probably the reason for the slight uneven edges. But like I said, the paper is high quality and feels like beautiful cloth. I don’t give the 5x7 journal 5-stars because it’s just way too small at that size. I know those dimensions sound like good enough in theory, but once you put in your hands and start using it, suddenly becomes very tiny real estate. My hands were cramping up, just from trying to write smaller. At this size, it’s just too chunky and not easy to keep the journal flat open while writing. But that’s just a design issue, and a personal preference. I just returned this journal (such an easy process, thank you!), and the refund is being processed with no fuss. I decided to purchase the 8x7 larger version and it’s gorgeous! Perfect in every way. I’ll be reviewing the larger journal separately and adding pics and video. This journal is very sturdy, thick, and the leather feels waxed, like something you'd use to make a leather backpack. It's not hard, but if your're looking for soft pliable buttery leather, this is not it. Maybe it will get softer after a lot of use. We'll see. The paper feels like good quality, thick too, almost like fabric. I like touching the paper, it feels substantial. But i'm not a fan of how it's cut. It looks like it was cut with a hand paper trimmer. It's a bit uneaven, not too bad, but not something i'd gift to someone. And some of the paper edges look smooshed, especially the corners. This is why i give it 3-stars, it's a good journal for personal use. B+, but not exquisit. I wish I had purchased the larger version too. The way this journal is constructed, i think it would be less chunky and easier to open, at the larger size.

I was excited to finally get a rustic leather journal like this. This is the real deal, folks. Genuine leather. Smells like leather, distresses like leather, the works. I wanted to make this journal special, so I created a first-page watercolor to help me feel creatively inspired each time I open it. As you can see from the pics, no bleed-through on the other side of the page, even though the water left a small dimple in the next few pages. Not a deal-breaker for me by any means, though. Very high-quality paper made from cotton with plenty of pages to write on. You can see the fibers when you hold the pages up to the light. I haven't had a chance to write in it just yet, but I'll be doing a pen-test page soon. I'm curious to see the results. I purchased the 7" x 5" and I'm pleased I did. It's just the right size for portability yet with plenty of writing room. There's even enough space to insert a pen in the side when it's closed. The strap encloser is nice and wide, unlike the stringy ones I've seen on similar journals here on Amazon. There are five separate page sections, great for sectioning out what you want to use the notebook for (dream journaling, writing, blogging, sketching, etc.). Nicely bound from the side and the bindings definitely look secure. A handmade masterpiece, in my opinion. This is the type of notebook I'd use for writing an entire first draft of a novel in. Note: These are NOT removable/refillable pages. But with the quality of this journal, it's definitely worth getting another once I've finished this one. I may even try the larger 8" x 6" size next. The only thing I can think of that I would change is the addition of a ribbon—or better yet, leather—bookmark, but I'm curious to see if I can somehow incorporate the strap for a bookmark. Once I get this journal good and broken in, I plan on updating this review, but I don't see my thoughts about it changing from what I've seen so far.

I did read the reviews prior to buying and thought let's try it out. Package came in a well protective plastic wrapping to protect the leather from being scratched from shipping, also included a Free 1 year replacement insurance (*must be registered within 10 days from date of purchase), opened packaging and had zero scratches, tested product from video and scratched the leather myself and if you rub hard enough and in a circle motion, yes the scratch will disappear. I read many reviews where some individuals stated differently however it worked with me, i only scratched the surface with my finger nail and with my keys however if you scratch it with a knife and it goes deep...then thats a different outcome. Covers are not to go through rigid beating like that anyways in the course of its lifetime, such as with some people are going crazy and taking a hammer to an iPhone X? No point in that?! Paper feels great and is smooth, its not computer paper so be aware of that, its truly handmade paper. I'm actually using this book to write in Calligraphy and works very well with a quill pen. You can make it personal for you by going to any leather shop and having them emboss anything you wish as the cover is plain all around, so you can fully use this product as a blank template. The sides are laced through the paper, it is noted that the paper is not changeable however if you are creative and lace it back through the paper of your own, then yes you can change the paper. I love this product and I will be placing another order once I'm finished writing in this one as I may purchase the bigger book. It's a great gift to give to someone that is creative and it has that old fashion feel and look. Great Job Moonster !

Bought for my son and we both love it. Came exactly as pictures and described. Authentic cover and thick, textured pages. Worth noting that the pages aren’t ideal for some mediums if used as a sketchbook/art book.

I really like leather journals, I don't normally buy lined ones but I like writing with a fountain pen and this makes my writing even neater, so it's visually appealing. The journal is well made and comes with a bag to keep it in, I didn't bother with the bag because I think leather journals look better when they're beat up a bit. For the price it's a no brainer. You never find a Pirate Treasure Map in a moleskin journal and Indiana Jones never used them either, so if you want your journal to have a bit of character but one of these 😁.
