Everything looks so elegant when served on these rectangular plates - making you look like a chef! The plates have a chic, modern design, yet they can fit in a traditionally styled home too. They are an ivory/creamy white color (not true white). Beware of the differing sizes. Each plate has a large rim, so the flat part of the plate isn't as large as you might think. For the 9.7x5.4" plates, the flat area inside the rim is just 7.5x3.25" - which compares to an average round 8" salad/dessert plate. The 12x6" plates have a flat surface of approximately 9x3.5" which is a little smaller than an average 10.5" round dinner plate. The 14x8" plates have a flat surface of approximately 11x4.5" which is slightly larger than an average round dinner plate. I believe either of the 2 larger sizes could be used as dinner plates depending on your appetite and presentation. The largest plate can also be used as a serving platter and the smaller plates could be used for serving side dishes. There is a lot of versatility when you have all 3 sizes!
