Well Water Tank Level Gauge!
Got this quickly dialed in with an ESP microcontroller and ESPHome via Home Assistant. The sensor itself appears to actually be made for installation in a car bumper or similar the way it's molded, but hey it mounted great in to a 3/4" PVC coupling and is pointed down at the water surface in my well tank. It's been running non-stop for several months now, and while there's some occasional variation in the readings, and I do apply smoothing filters to the readings and calculations, it's otherwise doing exactly what I intended it to do at this price point! Your mileage may vary, as this is a component made for any number of ultrasonic sensing applications well beyond my usage. However, during commissioning of my project and testing on static surfaces, the measurements (in meters raw) provided from the module data pin were spot on with my actual field measurements.

Good modules and correct readings
Even though the picture says, AJ-SR04M, i got 2 modules of RCWL-1655. I was able to get exact reading and intend to use for measuring water levels in tanks. For pi, i used a voltage divider of 1kohm and 2kohm and was able to get correct readings Very happy with this module have to see the reliability on long term

Questionable quality
One of the boards that goes along with the transducer suddenly stopped working after a few days. The data coming out is gibberish and unusable. My guess, the electronics are not designed to handle minor ESD events. The transducers themselves are fine.

Waste of MONEY
Purchased item and it set on my bench for a few weeks before I even opened the package. My project is to measure water level in a hydroponic tank. The 1st sensor worked while bench testing with my Arduino Mega 2560 powered by the USB cable. The .96" oled display and the sensor was the only components in the Arduino setup. The sensor was installed in the lid of the tank (a new plastic trash can), the readout was fixed at 40.2 and would not change no matter what the distance was. SENSOR #1 FAIL. Then I connected the 2nd sensor in place of the 1st Sensor and it worked for 15 days and now it reads "inf" no mater the distance in front of it. SENSOR #2 FAIL I even tried to connect to different pins on the Arduino, but that didn't work. Now tell me, why you would purchase this piece of JUNK? DON'T DO IT!!!

Great for DIY projects.
I'm currently using these for a water tank water level sensor. Theses sensors can easily be used with ESPHome in order to add them in Home Assistant. There is some soldering and programming that needs to be done but it easy enough. What I like about this ultrasonic distance measuring sensor is that is waterproof so for my application it was perfect. Another great thing is the 8' transducer cable, that is plenty of length to suit any location of application.

also supports UART, 1-Wire and IIC
Contrary to the product description I received 2 RCWL-1655 modules. In their form factor and default configuration they seem to be JSN-SR04T modules. But the good thing is that by soldering a resistor (R7) they can be configured to also work with UART, 1-Wire and I2C. Now I don't know if that's a coincidence. But I am very happy because I prefer I2C. Apart from that the sensor cables are plenty long. The readings seem to be correct. The built quality looks great. For ESPHome there is a ready to use component called sonic_i2c from the M5Stack-ESPHome project.
