Can this be used outdoors on a garden gate?

Of course you could fasten it to any wooden gate, but I'm not sure that the bell would hold up in the weather. It looks like it would tarnish and erode over time, at least to me it does....

Or is the door supposed to bump into the bell when the door is opened? Thanks

You can place the shopkeepers bell on the door, at the top of the door, so that when it is opened, it will ring. The door is not supposed to bump into the bell, the bell rings simply by the movement of the door.

Is the mounting bracket included with the product?

Yes the mounting bracket is included as well as the screws to mount it. Nice bell. Fairly loud.

How and where do I attach it if all my doors are metal?

I used two self tapping sheet metal screws. Where, was near the top but below the trim on the door frame.But you can mount it about anywhere that the spring does not hit anything. As long as the bell moves when the door is opened, it will ring.
