This game is so good that it will become the center of a new controversy to ban video games when Hiliary becomes President
Let me first elaborate on the title I gave this review, since I know the majority of you are going to look for the report button before anything else. When Doom originally came out, there were no rating systems for video games; doom was used as the de facto standard (along with Mortal Kombat) as to why the gaming industry needed to develop a rating system in order to keep these types of games out of the hands of children. Obviously it did not work; and and that was not the reasoning behind it. The point of the ESRB was to destroy video games, in the same way there's almost never a good superhero movie that isn't rated R (or the new robocop); By forcing manufactures to use the rating system or not pubish their game, the ESRB hurt the gaming industry a lot more than bad decisions often made by people in it. Anyway, enough with the history lesson. TL DR - If the original game caused the columbine massacre, then this game caused ISIS. Yes, it's that awesome. For those of you who have played though the first two dooms (and the various spin offs, like Final Doom), you will love this game. Everything in the game has been faithfully recreated, from the weapon textures, monster attacks, to the relative difficultly of the game. All the gore, all the vulgarity, all the stupidly over the top violence is there. The only real difference is how they altered the gameplay to be comparable with modern gaming. In the old days, there was no regenerating health. You didn't need to reload your weapons. There was no plot line in games like doom. You were a space marine and you killed everything in sight. All this has been updated with the times - Health does not regenerate; there are health packs, but you get health from killing monsters (and even more by using "glory" kills or by ripping them apart with the chainsaw). Weapons function like they did in the old days, except they are all modable - but you'll actually have to be careful with using ammo, as you'll frequently run out and will have to end up using your chainsaw to get more. The plot line, while not unique, does exist this time around; It has to do with limited amounts of energy on mars...and it's basically the stereotypical bad cooperation that is being destroyed by a single person. However Doom was never meant to have a story, and they did this one well. There are plenty of Easter eggs, difficulty settings (even a hardcore mode), online game modes (with the ability to play custom maps!), and time trials for you to gain extra powerups (the power-up system has seen a modern remake as well). Literally the only thing I can think of wrong with this game is how ID software never really explicitly did explain the link between BJ Blazkowicz (The protagonist from all the Wolfenstien games), Commander Keen (another ID software game which has never seen a modern reboot), and Doom Guy (BJ Blazkowicz III). This is pretty much the one thing that I've been hoping that they come up with a story for since the 1990s. I'd love to see a modern crossover between all three games; and to explain how all of BJ Blazkowicz's ancestors were cursed by the original (cyber)demon. In short, this is the best remake of an older game since Shadow Warrior - No wait, it's way better than that!

The pinnacle of shooting anything with a double barrelled shotgun
Everyone was pretty much expecting the worst from Doom after the extensive time it spent in development hell, including it being completely scrapped at one point and restarted from the ground up. But whatever made they decide to start fresh at that point was the best decision they could've made, because that abrupt design choice assuredly saved this game from being a disappointment. Doom is without question one of the most fun and satisfying games I've played in YEARS. It's fast and frenetic gunplay against hordes of demons and monsters that's honed to a science, harkening back to the idea of relying on speed, skill, and a f***ton of powerful guns and items to get you through combat instead of cover and exploiting rock stupid whack-a-mole enemies. It eschews the idea of waiting for an opportunity to pop off a couple shots and slowly work your way through levels by literally telling you in the first five seconds to rip and tear until it is done, and it's as viscerally satisfying as it should be. It honestly feels like the perfect blend of classic Doom sensibilities given a modern retooling, where it takes what it needs from its roots for most of the core gameplay ideas and then adds onto it with more recent developments in gaming like character progression and customization. And it all works and feeds into itself remarkably well. The PC version runs brilliantly, looks amazing, and has the tight customizable controls you'd expect from any PC shooter. The downside of the physical copy is that it's only 1 DVD of about 8 gigs and the rest has to be downloaded via Steam, but at this point physical PC gaming is pretty much on the way out so I can't really blame them for not wanting to make 5 DVD's for every physical copy when most sales would be digital. While the multiplayer is not nearly as bad as many make it out to be, it certainly isn't close to as good as the singleplayer. But I'm alright with that, it's still friggin' fun and has a fair amount to offer between levels and game modes, and considering the singleplayer is 100% the real draw I'd say having added multi that's okay but fun isn't worth knocking the rating of a game down that much. I mean really, why do multiplayer centric games get a pass for the opposite, where singleplayer is either nonexistent or so weak that it might as well not be there, but still get outrageously great scores? Doom feels like a miracle to have come out now and be as shockingly good as it is, and it feels like a much needed kick in the ass to a lot of shooter conventions that have gone to make the genre feel so numbingly stale and repetitive these days.

Steamed! Disc only includes Steam installer, not Doom. Multiplayer cheating galore!!!
I ordered the game so I could play/install Doom. Instead you get to install Steam and then download the game afterwards. This will be the last time I waste money ordering a game that is anyway associated with Steam.I chalk it up to having played PS4 games for the last few years and my personal ignorance about Steam. UPDATE 7/18/16 So after playing the game for awhile now, there is now denying that the single player game is good. Very good in fact. HOWEVER, the rampant cheating that is allowed in the multiplayer portion of the game is nothing but pathetic. The online support forums for Bethesda show absolutely no intent to prevent this so I honestly would suggest that anyone thinking of purchasing the game for online multiplayer to go back to whatever CoD or other online multiplayer experience you enjoy now. This game will provide nothing but frustration over the incredible level of cheating that is going on.

GREAT GAME. 1 issue
This game is solid and timeless and everyone should play it. The 1 issue I have is not related to the game but it is the fact that like most games these days, the disc just serves as a keycode because it initializes a download from Steam. I prefer to play games off my own discs without having to rely on a service to download the game. Otherwise, DOOM is addictive. The best joke about this game is that it has been called "a heavy metal album that comes with a game." So true.

Excellent Remake to a Classic
If you are a fan of the ORIGINAL DOOM GAMES from the 90s era, YOU WILL LOVE THIS GAME! I was very skeptical at first because I kept seeing these negative reviews every now and then, and I wasn't sure if I would like the fast-paced action in this game, but I am so glad to have bought it! I've gotten through about 75% of the campaign, and I've loved EVERY minute of it! I did not buy this game for multiplayer, and so I haven't even tried that out yet, but Doom to me was always meant to be a hardcore single player experience, and Bethesda DID NOT FAIL TO DELIVER! The amount of secrets, classical throwbacks to the original games, the amount of weapons and weapon mods, armor upgrades, etc., there is just so much content in this game that just about anyone can appreciate. Some people say it gets old and repetitive, but that really is not true. In every level, you are introduced to at least 1-2 new demons, and later, different variations of those said demons. Plus, I never get tired of the amount of different gory melee kills; some demons have several different gory melee kills, depending on where you deliver the final blow. Lastly, there are power-ups found in some demon fights, which drastically change your play style, for the better. Not to mention, there are many different challenges in every level, including rune challenges that give you unique upgrades. The story is surprisingly fleshed out, with a lot of background information in data pads found throughout the game. Even the voice acting for the few characters that are present in the game are done very well. Of course, don't expect a strong narrative like from Uncharted or something, but the addition of a somewhat logical plot is definitely welcome. All in all, this game is a true remake of the original. Honestly, they could not have done a better job in remaking Doom, with freshly updated graphics and special effects, and updated looks/textures to the original demons, weapons, etc. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Especially for Single Player!

I Didn't Expect It To Grab Me, But......
I had the beta on Steam but really didn't crank it up but one time and when I saw "multiplayer" I closed it out as I'm not really much on multiplayer games. I wasn't going to get the game, but something told me to take a chance and see. So I ordered it. It's a Steam game so if you have Steam you can activate it with the numbers in the game box and it starts downloading. It takes awhile if you brought the DVD version as it comes with one DLC pack which adds to the size to download. (Mine showed something like 40-50 gigs with the pack but I understand if you just have the game, it's around 38 gigs.) Since I have cable broadband this didn't brother me to much but if your running something else then it might be a hassle. Anyway, after getting it down and finished installing, I cranked it up. Like most games today, it take a bit to load as you go thru two menus but what I liked right off the bat is the number of items you can tweak if you want. I also noted that all I had to really change was the brightest and that was it. I launched the game and realized right away that I'm going to have to get used to this! Since I use a Xbox 360 pad, I was pleased to note I had no problems getting into the action at all. The game plays very well on my system and the biggest problem I had was learning how to stay alive at first. I'm working on the single player game, and I must admit, I've really liked what I've seen so far. This isn't your old Doom or even your old Doom 3 but a sort updated Doom. The idea of gaining health by ripping demons apart I found a bit interesting. The environment is so interesting, I almost got killed off at first while I was just looking around. It can be a bit gory in places but this game grabbed me when a lot of others don't. I haven't run into any problems running it yet. (My Specs for Infor: i7-4690K running at 4.1 gig., 16 RAM; GTX-960 SC 4 gig graphic card. SB 5.1 Sound on 5.1 speakers.) I played the game for about an hour right after installing it with no problems other than getting killed four times with no crashes, etc. It ran solid and the game play was smooth and easy to react to. For me a really good buy and worth the money.....

DOOM SLAYER HAS RETURNED
I am rating 4 stars which is "I like it" but I actually LOVE THIS GAME. However there is quite a bit of room for improvement. I agree with other users here that the distribution model is silly. Why not just include two discs so we can install without downloads? I love steam, it makes it easy to get add ons and such. But having to wait for a download is pretty poor. However if you voted 1 star for this you are a pretty unfair person. The gameplay is EXCELLENT. It really took me back to 90's gaming. The fast paced shooting and trying to survive against hordes of demons is just plain fun. I couldn't put it down. I will criticize ID though on this arena setup. The Original Doom had monster throughout the level. But this game has them placed in locations that you trigger a fight. So you know exactly when you will see Demons..which kind of ruins the surprise experience of the original Doom and opening a door with a surprise Cacodemon, etc. The weapons are a ton of fun, I could care less about the upgrade system though. This is a case of them trying to bring current gaming styles into Doom and honestly I just don't care. I want to shoot Demons, I want to explore levels and find secrets, I want to see hauntingingly crazy hell artwork. The upgrade system just isn't needed. Bringing me to the level secrets. This does a nice job of making me explore. They put in switches that unlock secret areas that take you to the original Doom levels. Gave me damn goosebumps finding these. So awesome of an idea, kudos. A bit on the graphics, I have a GeForce 760 GTX..which had a tough time with this game. It played absolutely fine on 1980 resolution with medium graphics. Sucks I couldn't use my native resolution and it always sucks having to lower things, but that's the way of the PC. If you are a PC gamer you understand this, time to upgrade. If you are some noob please buy it on a Xbox or PS4, don't come whining here because your rig can't keep up. Overall if you liked the Original Doom, Quake, Unreal and such you will probably really enjoy this. A lot of people don't seem to like multi player. I have not played it enough to really say yet, I can say some of what I played felt more like original Quake games.

Lots of guns. Super violent.
One of the funnest shooters I've played in a long time, and also incredibly violent. Feels like a 90s FPS with a fresh coat of paint. Obviously, it's based on Christianity. However, the enemies aren't so much "demons" as they are just violent monsters from an alien dimension. Though the Christian theme of being the good man standing your ground and doing what's right in the face of evil is definitely represented here.

Buen juego

Really really disappointed. Now have to pay for high speed net ...
I dont know why anyone would rate it 4 or 5 stars. If i wanted to download 55 gb of data i would have bought a digital key costing almost half the amount i paid for this game. Why does the product description not mention that its a single disc and would require huge download to be able to play. Really really disappointed. Now have to pay for high speed net to download on top of what i paid to get it from global store. How is this fair ? What is the friggin use of hard copy if we have to download this much. Expected better from amazon. Feel cheated.
