Hauntingly beautiful.
This is Nihei's best. Explore the city, a seemingly endless construct that constitutes entire planets, possibly even stars, within its megastructure. Told by the eyes of Killy, Cibo, and even Sanakan in this 4th entry. Killy's never-ending journey to discover the Net Terminal Gene, going from a trusting man who aids those around him, to guarded, cold, and distrusting. Having been used, betrayed, and failing to save several of those around in on his journeys... but Cibo is the only entity grounding his humanity in the here and now. But how long can that last? Can he continue to protect her while searching for the gene? What does Sanakan truly want, what is the true nature of the administration, safeguard? Who is p.cell, where did silicone life originate... and why are we destined to destroy one another? This uniquely singular world and setting from the imaginative artist and writer Nhei taps into his best aspects of creation. Setting, world, mystery... the plot is simple, characters have clear motives with supporting situations that explore them in quiet and reserved ways. This story is the perfect expression of Nihei's talents. No wonky teenage melodrama, no weird back half changes... it starts, journeys, and ends beautifully.
