DOT 3 is DOT 3.It will ruin paint. DOT is silicone based and is used generally in motorcycles - will not ruin paint. Don't mix the two together.

Of course you can, if you have no other choice. It will not cause any catastrophe failure or internal damage, under standard everyday breaking. However, it is highly recommended to use at least a DOT 4. It has a 30 to 50 degree higher boiling point. Toyota's breaking system is very efficient, and may not ever reach those high temperatures, unless you're in a prolonged, heavy breaking situation, like riding the break down a long, steep grade. Then you'll wish you went with higher grade fluid. It just depends on how lucky you're feeling.

Yes, you can use any DOT 3 brake fluid in your CRV. The other answer that says "if your existing fluid is silicone based" makes no sense at all. DOT 3 fluid is NOT silicone based (Only DOT 5 fluid is silicone.). DOT 3 is glycol based. And as a side note, the claim that this fluid is synthetic is technically correct, but ALL brake fluid is synthetic.
